Not a great 1st quarter for 2007
AT&T Mobility did not do a great job during this first quarter of 2007 with the problems that T-Mobile USA and Sprint continues to have by only gaining 1.2 million net new subscribers, which was well below my target for them, and well below their first qt 2006 numbers which is showing me some signs of problems to come. I was a bit surprised to see that low of a number compared to YoY periods, but there are some catalysts though such as the IPHONE and the continued rollouts of HSDPA but for the voice side they are no match to Verizon Wireless who continues to outpace the industry.

It's not that - most of us don't actually care how the company does, since it's not like our bonuses are affected by that, and it's not so bad that our jobs are in danger.

We know the iPhone won't come out until 2nd QTR and will probably not be readily available until 3rd QTR.
There may be a significant number of people waiting for the iPhone release (although not all will buy the iPhone)
This is why I was kinda against the iPhone being announced so far before the release date.

The IPHONE won’t be coming out until 2nd quarter correct with majority in the distribution channel in the 3rd quarter so that should show materially in the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter of this year to see how hot that phone truly is.
I do not really buy that argument that you raise that customers are deferring their purchases in general and waiting for the IPHONE to come to the company in an exclusive matter because there are other devices out there that Cingular has that new customers can sign up and then wait later on until the IPHONE goes into the distribution channels.
Of course, there are 1.5 million inquiries so far with regarding AT&T customers for the IPHONE but to only get 1.2 million customers for quarter 1 of 2007 down YoY ...

I think those kinds of initiatives such as the unlimited messaging and other types would help improve Cingular’s metrics as well as other companies. We will have to see if the unlimited messaging that Cingular/ATT is offering would materially affect them.

If you active now, you will have to wait 12 to 18 months to get the iPhone. As far as I know, it will not be available for no contract.

I do not know the policies about the upgrading situation so can you perhaps tell me or the forum in general what it entails.
I am sure AT&T would not really care if a customer already purchased the device now in a contract to purchase the IPHONE because that would allow the company to obtain more revenue through voice and data expansion. I am sure they would change those policies or just charge the customer full price or what not.

But distribution for the iPhone is different. Apple determines the distribution policies for this phone, not just at&t.

Incorrect - the Iphone will be available to purchase at either the full retail pricing or with the subsidized discount. The hard part will be actually finding one as the production will be limited at the beginning to create a "buzz".
