Cingular and the CWA

Hi all...

I'm curious to know from those Cingular employees, who are part of the union (CWA), how well it is working out for you. What are the pros and cons? I understand if you can't get into specifics, but as an AWS employee who might have the opportunity to join, or not join, I'd like to start getting as much info as possible and who better to ask than the actual employees who are members.

Thanks in advance...

I'm part of the union... and thusfar, everything is fine.. the stewards are friendly and willing to help.. and they know their stuff. =)
Go ahead and join, sure you're giving up some of your paycheck (very little) for dues, but in the long run it will serve you WAY better than if you aren't a memeber.

Thanks for the reply. I come from a longtime union family, and know the benefits of being in a union, but I also know that things have changed over the years.

how long have you been a member and were an employee before you became a member? I guess what I'm looking for is some answers as to how things will change in regards to my salary, benefits, etc., if I become a member. I realize about the dues part, and am not really worried about that.

I guess I might be in a different situation since I'm part of a company that's being taken over by another company. I probably just need to be patient and wait and see what we're offered once the merger takes place.

Except the fact that they fail to mention (here in Tulsa) that Oklahoma is a right-to-work state, and union membership's NOT mandatory...

That's pretty cool. Be glad you don't live in canada. Here if you are in a union posision then you MUST be union. Personaly that is the main reason i hate unions. I avoid them like the plague. Only been in a union once and that was because i was being paid about $2000 a week and i didn't have any problems so i was happy.
