Or lack of? Can anyone tell me why we don't have phones that even come close the the durability of Nextel? I have a lot of potential customers who would leave Nextel in a heartbeat if you have similar phones.....

Because Nextel's phones are the damned ugliest thing in the world. Who wants to carry around a giant yellow rubber walkie talkie? Nextel customers. Try a Moto v365.

People whose primary measure of a phone isn't prettiness, generally. Folks who do actual work with actual hazards and have their phones with them.

I work for Cingular and acknowledge that the lack of truly ruggedized equipment is a genuine weakness to our line. If I had the option, I would certainly buy such equipment myself... though perhaps not the bright yellow version. ;)

Some people just dont care that people dont look at their phone and drool. Take a look at the VZW phone called the G'zOne, not exactly a pretty phone but because was built with military specs for dust/shock/water resistance it still sells.

A big selling point for the durable phones is to buisness customers that dont care if their employees dont like the way their phone works. The company cares about overall value and a phone that they wont have to worry about getting wet or droped is a big value, even if the employee with it might whine about the way it looks.
