Ok so with this whole merger Im thinking about signing up with Cingular and bring my Verizon number with me...I want someone to tell me why I should be with Cingular. I would prefer people who have come from Verizon and some advantages and disadvantages. This doesnt need to start any arguments but I just want some unbias opinions so it will help me whether I should stay with them or jump ship to Cingular... 😳

The only problem you may have with Verizon is their phones sometimes lack the features of their GSM brethren. Other than that you'll get the absolute best service from the very best network in the country. Period.

That's not true drama... the only people who say VZW has a "more reliable network" is VZW. Not ONE independant study say or proves what VZW claims. You may have good service where you are, but that doesn't mean it's better.

With Cingular you get The LARGEST network in the US.
You get Rollover.
You get to talk to 47 million customers for free with our M2M feature. You get the best data plans available.
You also have the ability to stay ahead in the technology game. VZW is already using it's unimpressive "3G" technology that will be outdated by the time Cingular's 3G technology is in the US. Cingular is TESTING with better results than VZW has ever had with it's 3G services. I think it's hilarious that VZW sells their data as "broadband...

Free roaming. Even Verizon can't guarantee no roaming charges. 46 million mobile 2 mobile customers and you don't have to be 'In Netword'. You don't have to worry about Cingular limiting what you can and can't do with your phones, like Verizon blocking all Bluetooth functions of the one phone they got in. Also you can download graphics, games, pics from 3rd party sites with Cingular. The list goes on and on.

These reviews are all a little biased, but let's be honest, no roaming only means when your not on their network you can't use your phone. If I was stranded on the side of the road, I would rather pay 69 cents than have my phone read NO SERVICE.
Sim Cards are great, but they are far too easy to lock, then you need the PUK code, which you have to call customer service, enter it in wrong, time to buy a new sim card, and re-enter all your information again.
And all this IN network complaining, it's just a fancy name for Mobile to Mobile, so yes, you have to be "IN" for your free calling, but on Cingular you need to have mobile to mobile anyways, and both carriers offer that free on their rate plans.
So really, in the long run, what does bei...

Wait a second... Correction. No roaming means that you are not billed for roaming. You are still able to roam onto AT&T or T-Mobile towers, but the roaming agreements with the other carriers don't cost Cingular very much, so instead of screwing their customers, they eat the fraction of a penny per minute that the alternate carrier charges Cingular.

No Roaming means that if you are using a GSM phone on their GSM nation plan, you can only use a GSM system, no analog back up, which currently is still a good thing to have, two years down the road or even next year when analog is no longer in use by anyone, then it will be another story, but right now, it's a reality that if your not in the proposed coverage area you do not have service. I know this for a fact, I worked for Cingular for two years before a better career opportunity came along recently with Verizon. I liked my Cingular service, I like my Sprint service when I worked for them, and I like my Verizon service, but you can't fall prey to advertising gimmicks like no roaming, because there is fine print for EVERYTHING, even Verizon...

By saying "No roaming", they imply that the bill does not having roaming charges. Fact is, the phone will still roam onto compatible towers. Yes, GSM is not as widespread as CDMA or TDMA. Yes, there are places that you don't get service that you might with another network. Yes, Verizon uses phones that roam onto older networks. If there is a compatible tower to connect to, the phone will connect to it, and you won't see roaming charges.

Ok... but if you are roaming on Verizon, 'In Network' calls are counted against your peak time... Cingular has open roaming agreements, if you get a signal, you're not romaing and if you are, m2m will work... sim cards are good, if someone locks the phone, i can't help it they are an idiot... gsm is known the world over as superior to cdma, that's why so many people choose it... Verizon isn't a wireless provider, they hold their customers hostage... that's why they limit anything and everything they can to prevent their customers from actually enjoying their phone...

Verizon vs Cingular

A discussion like this needs to be handled with facts. Not comments like this.

First and foremost Verizon has a great continental US network as well as the experience of dominating the wireless industry for many years. The practices Verizon chooses as far as contracts are concerned and purchasing phones at full retail price seem far fetched to Cingular employees for the fact of different policies.

Cingular has a great technology in GSM, yes it has it's restrictions, but everyone is aware of CDMA restrictions as well. So we will not get into that discussion. Cingular boasts TRUE nationwide and will not charge roaming or long distance if you roam, Mobile to Mobile is also truly nationwide it does not matter if you...
