since att and cingular did a buy out can i get a phone using any gsm band and have it work?
I was wondering since the buy out can i use a phone using any gsm band and have it work on the new network? i also have no roaming on my plan also so i thought i could do this.

No roaming does not always mean the phone will work with any carrier. The carrier you got the phone from may have put a lock on it. If the phone does not say Cingular or AT&T, it may work on the network; then again, it may not.
