new sim question

Varioram

I'm confused... Is Cingular sending out new sim cards to all customers?

Phone in question is v600, purchased 8/27, replaced by Cing 10/14.. Nation plan based in NY Metro.

No, unless you want to buy a new SIM. Youll still get the expanded network, just not the new perks with the new SIM card.

How much does the new sim cost? If my current sim is damaged what would Cingular replace it with 32 or 64?

Thanks

It should cost you $25. That's the suggested retail. You can always just buy a new SIM card, your old one doesn't have to be "lost" or anything, just walk in to a store and tell them you'd like to buy a new 64K sim. The graphics on the card are completely different, so you'll be able to tell if it's 32K or 64K immediately.

The new SIMs wont be released in the Dallas market until November 1st, and they wont be given to stores until the existing stock is depleted. I don't expect to see them in stores until mid-late November. Other markets may be different, but everyone in Texas should be the same.

how much is this new sim card going to cost? I also have another question. I go to University of Texas at Arlington and my phone doesn't work when i am in some of the buildings and it takes the phone to re-establish a signal when i walk back outside, will the new sim card help with that?

to be honest, the 64k sim will do nothing more for your phone than the 32k SIM except give US the capability of load balancing our users in specific areas to better utilize the towers.

example:
10000 people in Town X
8000 people using "Cingular "radios"
2000 using "ATTW radios"
(i say radios, because they would be using the same "tower"

ENS would allow us as a company to use OTA to change 3000 people from Cingular's radios to ATTW's radios, to achieve better performance on the network.

the customers would see calls go through a little faster, and less chance of "call failed" or dropped calls.

Is it advisable to get the 64K ones? I, too, just got my phones at the end of Aug.

Do I just go to a local store to purchase one and change it out myself (and keep the old 32K)?

If that's what you wanna do, then do it. I'd wait at least another month for them to get them in stock. The only reason a store wouldn't sell you one is if they don't have it in stock. You can keep the 32K for a back up of phone numbers if you want, or just throw it away. They're rather small and hard to keep up with after all.

1) I think I read somewhere on here there is a difference in size of the SIMS? Is that true?

2) Will the advantage be better signal coverage, or just better graphics?

Thanks in advance.

Same dimensions in the SIM card. The little chip inside the card is probably bigger, but the new and current ones are interchangable.

The graphics wont be affected by the SIM chip. Just a larger text inbox, larger phone book on those phones with a dynamic shared memory (not all use variable memory for number storage, most will still only allow 250 numbers to be stored.), and it allows the phones to search the network faster which gives you a better connection.

The source from this is the Cingular Beat from earlier this month, but I can't post a link because it's proprietary and it was an email.

OK, thanks, that's what I needed to know. This is my first "modern" phone with a SIM, so I'm new to this. 😁

I read another post on here about the phones have to be ENS enabled? Do you know if the SE T637 qualifies? (Just got it in Aug.)

Thanks.
