I am not aware of any intentions to move away from the current policy of crippling handsets and their standard UI. If that is important to you then a switch may be warranted. You might try out Cingular in your area with the 30 day return policy and see for yourself how well it works. I have heard good things from a friend who lives there but do not have first hand information.

Good luck in your decision.

I know cingcing works in Seattle, so he would have an opinion.

Having sold Verizon in the past, I was never truly a fan of what they did to their handsets. Yes, they have a pretty good network and some great options, but the modifications they make to handsets cause some serious troubles at times... including screwing Bluetooth at times.

I don't see and can't see Verizon moving away from their position. In fact, I can only see it becoming worse as they introduce more exclusive options. Given time, I'd look for the phones to be physically modified as well (and actually that's already happening).

I love Cingular / at&t, but honestly at the end of the day I'd consider other options before my final choice. How many people do you know on Verizon? Are you generally happy with the reception and the...

My reception and service are fine with verizon, I can't knock them there, but if AT&T has just as good service or better then screw verizon and their hack jobs phones. I'm one of those truly pissed that all the damn UI are the same, it sucks and I feel cheated out of a choice to choose Sony Ericsson over Motorola etc!! So yes it pisses me off enough to leave.

I guess I just have to be ready to port and try it out, just hoping for some Seattle input.

Kind of a dangerous idea, because you never know who you are going to get, but try going into an AT&T COR store in your area and ask a few of the customers in the store what they think about the reception.

You can also have the rep pull up the map tool in the store for street level coverage of your area.

But the biggest thing is going to be that 30 day trial period. If you want you can get a temp number for an AT&T phone at first while you try out the service, and once you realize you like it you can port over that temp number.

Ditto. Get a temp number to try out, and if you like it THEN port your number onto it.

It depends very much on where you are, since there's lots of hills & valleys in the Seattle Metro area. Most of it is covered - I'm all over the east side & in snohomish county and I never have problems with signal. Except inside my house for some reason 😲 (well, on the first floor at least). But that's a peril of living in a rural small town.

Most of the places you'd be going will have excellent coverage - and that includes 3G as well.

Verizon is realistically never going to ditch their UI, just because they've invested so much in it. As much as some people hate it, lots of VZW customers love it because all the phones have the same controls. It's also easier for the reps who need to troubleshoot the settings on the devices.

Great thanks I live on the eastside Bothell Woodinville area, so that's reassuring. I just can't deal with the UI anymore and to know they will never ditch it makes my decision that much easier.

Coverage in Bothell is great - that's where my call center is, so they damn well better have good coverage here!

Hey LL Cool Jake! (how original of you 🙂) ANyway, I have had Cingular since before the merger, all in all, about 4 years. It has continually improved over time. I wouldn't even think to change carriers at this point. I work downtown and live in snohomish county and I take this phone all over the place with me. It never fails to work and I can always rely on it. I also travel a lot and the service in airports etc across the country works great too. I have had my razer for a year and a half and something I have noticed is that everyone I know that has a Verizon razer HATES it, I don't know what it is that they put on that phone but it doesn't work well from what I hear. Anyway, if you are looking to change to a carrier that works good all ov...
