Post Merge Divest Question

Does the new company have to divest ALL business in certain markets as required by the FCC/DOJ? Or, as I thought II understood before I read something that confused me, just divest of the ATTWS assets in certain markets.

The combined company isn't pulling out of markets, just paring back it's combined assets, right?

yes, it just has t o make sure it doesnt have TOO much in certain markets, not eliminating markets altogether

I read the FCC order at fcc.gov and copied the section that applies below. My understanding is that the merger is essentially blocked in these markets, Cingular will have to sell off the AT&T portions. In other words, here in Litchfield County, CT - my service isn't going change. Not happy ☹️


The Commission conditioned its consent on the companies taking certain actions in 22
local mobile telephony markets to ameliorate the anti-competitive effect of the merger in those
markets. Specifically, the Commission disallowed the companies’ plan to merge their mobile
telephone businesses in 16 markets where there would have been high market share for the
merged entity and fewer competing carriers than in most other markets: Oklahoma City...
