Data Plans compared

As I look through the ATT Website, it appears that there are 4 plans all offering unlimited data access, at three different prices. What's the difference between:

PDA Connect $45
Smartphone Connect $20
Blackberry Connect $35
MediaNet $20

Aren't these all essentially the same service? I'm especially interested in why I couldn't run the Smartphone plan on a Blackjack.

The pda connect is $39.99 when you have a voice plan of $39.99 or higher, same goes with the BB Connect plan, its $5 cheaper. the reason their all different prices is becuase each device can use more or less internet than some other device. At least thats what they tell me...and make sure you pick the correct plan becuase they do sweeps to make sure people aren't using the incorrect plan.

They've also changed things a bit more now.

PDA Connect, $39.99 (includes 1500 txts)
Blackberry BES $44.99
Blackberry BIS $29.99
Smartphone Connect $19.99
Media Max 200 $19.99 (includes 200 txts)

I'm not sure I understand the statement "use more or less internet." Data is data and unlimited is unlimited. I'm sure you're accurately repeating what you've been told, but this sounds like a line of bull_____ to me.

a regular phone has a limited browser and does not use the amount of bytes that a pda uses thats why its cheaper for smartphone plans or razors for example .

Think of it like an old car 2 barrel (phone)
carburator doesnt suck as much fuel or air as a 4 barrel does (pda)

Good analogy, Box!

For further info, note the following:

The MediaNet plans can apply to any "phone" - but not smartphones, PDA's, or BlackBerry's.

Smartphone Connect applies to Smartphones (currently only the 3100 & 3125 are offered).

PDA Connect Plans are for PDA Devices (currently the Treo 680 & 750, HP iPAQ, Nokia E62, HTC 8525/8500/8125/8100, and Samsung Blackjack).

BlackBerry plans are for BlackBerry devices.
BlackBerry Connect for PDA is an option for Treo 680 and Nokia E62 users that have a BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) or want the BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) functionality. NOTE THAT THESE ARE THE ONLY DEVICES CURRENTLY COMPATIBLE WITH BLACKBERRY CONNECT! No other PDA devices currin the AT&T lineup are Bla...

We also have the N75 for smartphones.

To expand on the previous comment it takes a lot more fuel to run a v8 high performance corvette then it does a 4 cylinder Hyundai accent hence the 39.99 PDA connect (corvette) and the 19.99 media net (Accent).

They periodically do sweeps of accounts to check which device you have (they can tell by the IMEI) and match it to what feature is on your account. If they notice the wrong feature on the account they will remove it and leave the account on the pay per use feature which can result in huge overage charges. i actually had a customer that this happened to he had a blackjack with unlimited media net and they removed the feature and he ended up with a bill for over $1,000.

And the customer with the $1000 bill actually paid it? Or did he point out that you had voided the contract by unilaterally changing the terms of the agreement?

The part that was "void" on the contract was the feature he was using, so we take that feature off to fix the problem. It was an invalid feature.

In the terms and conditions of his contract it specifically says what features are for what phones and if you put the wrong feature on a phone Cingular reserves the right to change or remove the feature at anytime so the only person that was violating the terms of the contract in this instance was the customer.
