iPhone misonceptions.

Why is it when it comes to this phone, everybody throws out common sense & logic?

In terms of upgrades, why would the iPhone be different than any other phone? I read in a post earlier that a sales rep was telling customers "that they can buy the iPhone in February, then come back in June & get one & not renew your contract". Think about that for a minute.

Then, people are -shocked- that they can't get the Jesus phone w/o a contract. Wait a minute.

It's the same policies & procedures! Wow!

OPUS was changed recently. Merger was sped up and store management changes are happening now. It is because of moronic 18-24 year old "sales people" why this launch is going to be oh so bad.

Has there been official word on the contract? Other than the small print on the ads?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can walk into any Cingular at&t store and get a phone without a contract.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, unlike most other phones sold in core stores, the iPhone isn't subsidized (as per Apple). So this is a unique item. No?

Yes, the official word is contract only. BUT, in the case of California, there is a law on the books (has been since like 1990) that you are not REQUIRED to buy/purchase/activate SERVICE on a device and that you are entitled to BUY that device at "NORMAL" price. So, in saying that I feel like AT&T is contradicting themselves. However, I also am told that that IS discounted pricing.

About the data bundle, I am sure you can go on line and cancel it the minute you get home, so thats how they get around the bundiling/price gouging/fixing issue.

I never said you could buy an iphone in february.

All information until recently has said that the iphone would not be subsidized meaning....like any other non subsidized phone...you don't have to renew your contract to buy it at "no commitment" pricing. I can imagine that the existing customer base for at&t would be outraged that they couldn't buy the iphone until they were elligible for an upgrade even when they are willing to pay outright costs(becuase most of them are)

Who are you to say that you know exactly how things will be. What makes you so high and mighty?

I am not high & mighty. But you did say some stuff that was incorrect, but I didn't mention your handle by name or say anything mean towards you.

I also happen to agree with the paragraph you just wrote, I think that was nicely written compared to your earlier post on the issue.

Peace & Long live the Death Star, err, LA Cellular, err, Pacific Bell, err, At&T Wireless, err Cingular, err. Oh F*** it, I give up.

How is it that shareholders of this asinine company are not OUTRAGED that they essentially wasted BILLIONS of dollars in the few years when they had THE NAME TO BEGIN WITH. Antitrust anybody? Not under this Justice Department.

who knows, I for one am pissed to have to explain the difference between the two mergers to customers atleast 15 times a day. I think I am going to create a power point presentation and just hand it to them on cd rom so I don't have to speak.

There seems to be a lot of noise out there about the iPhone... How it'll all shake out, I haven't a clue. I know Radio Shack won't be carrying it, which I'm happy about to an extent. Instead all our stores will get Blackjacks to compensate.

I can believe the phone will not have any rebates attached, considering it's Apple. Has anyone ever looked at the profit on an iPod? For the store selling it, the profit is practically non-existant. It's all about accessories. For the iPhone, I really don't think a lot will change. For Cor stores, it'll be all about the accessories and data plans to make money on this thing.

I actually would not be too surprised to see an iPhone data plan rolled out just for the device ala the Blackberry data...
