Well, when looking at the other phones that are insurable... The Blackjack would have to drop in price, significantly before it were insurable. The Asurion insurance offered through Cingular/AT&T seems to only be available on devices with a full price (ie no-contract discount) of less than $300.00. IIRC the Blackjack is somewhere up in the $450.00 range.

Eligibility has nothing do do with price - there are NO data devices that are eligible for coverage. No BlackBerry's, No PDA's, No Smartphones can be insured.

Admittedly, I have to go by memory here, since I'm on leave from working customer care, but I'd swear that if one looked up the complete list (not the pdf one on the website, which is only partial), that the Cingular (HTC) 3125 was on there as well. 😕 Replacement cost seems to have everything to do with it, and based on lengthy observations, it seems that they go eligible once the no-commit price drops below the $300.00 mark (give or take).
And really, it's also the most logical way to set the eligibility criteria. The coverage is negotiated with Asurion, after all, and in such negotiations, they're unlikely to care WHAT the phone is. Their bottom line is what it's going to cost them to replace it.
