Data Plan(s) Question: Part 2

Okay... I'm in data plan hell. Could someone help clear up some confusion please? ☹️

Can someone explain the difference (other than price) between:

Data Connect (Unlimited)
PDA Connect (Unlimited)
SmartPhone Connect w/Xpress Mail (Unlimited)

It appears they all do the same thing, only there are different prices for different anticipated usage patterns based on the different devices (therefore Unlimited isn't really Unlimited).

What kind of device do you have or will you be purchasing?

Thinking of a V3xx and a pair of iPhones. Why should it really matter for an "Unlimited" data plan?

Because it does. They are not marketed as "unlimited" data plans. AT&T markets the plans based on the equipment you choose rather than giving you a list of features and saying they are all unlimited.

I have no clue what the iPhones will use since AT&T nor Apple have released that information.

A V3xx will use one of the unlimited Medianet plans because it only has a Medianet browser. Based on other PDA type devices you will most likely need to use a PDA connect plan since the iPhone will most likely be classified as a PDA. These are both a discount off the laptop connect or true unlimited data plan because they use inherently less than a laptop might.

I clearly see the word unlimited attached to the plans.

And how do you know how much a laptop will use? I for one tether my phone (TMo) to my laptop but I only use it once a quarter or maybe for a week during the summer. There are plenty of better wireless connections out there even when looking at 3G wireless. 😡

Well, I decided to edit my original post and give you the benefit of the doubt. Obviously you have predetermined your thoughts on this subject and are either here to be a troll or just want to remain ignorant.

AT&T markets the plans after you choose the phone, period. You get a discount if you want a PDA connect plan or a Medianet plan as MOST people will use less.

You can choose to accept that or choose to see what you like.

Actually... just trying to better understand the logic and understand what at&t calls a smart phone vs. a PDA vs. a ???

Maybe I have a hard time buying this since it would be like my ISP asking me what OS I run and how many PCs are in my house to determine what price plan I get to use.

Not trolling. Neither am I trying to offer profound insight. Just trying to seek enlightenment on the subject.

It is exactly like your IP asking you if you will be running a commercial website from your home. They require a different package due to the fact that while their plans may be unlimited they are based on intended usage. Same as if it is a business account for one computer or a personal account for one computer.

Intended usage is a fact of life with ALL internet service providers whether they be cable, DSL, fixed wireless or portable wireless. If you really will only use tethering for short non consecutive periods of time a PDA plan should be fine for you.

Smartphone connect really is not used at this time unless you have one phone and one phone only, the 3125. That is the only smartphone AT&T carries. QWERTY keyboard amoung other...

And every internet company offers different "unlimited" services with different levels of service and speeds. AT&T Yahoo DSL has packages from 500KB to 6MB, and they're all different prices.

Here's all the information on data devices. It's too much to type out.
