Alright, no one go blabbing to AT&T over this, since I could get fired, 🙄 but I have a bit more information on iPhone availability.

From what I was able to learn, the iPhone will not officially be restricted to new contract customers only, it will be available for those eligible for upgrade.

...and for those buying at the no contract price outside of upgrade, it will be available as well, but only at Apple Stores. AT&T Corporate locations will be left to their own discretion as to whether they will allow no contract iPhone sales. However, given the plan requirements for the iPhone (which I still don't know, but I know it will be expensive), I can't see any salesman allowing that to go out the door without commission atta...

Right, the pricing will be non subsidized, unaffected by contract. I'm just responding to the folks who are wondering if it would be possible to get one at all without a contract, and from what I was able to learn, the answer to that is yes. 🙂

Oh and your best friends with Steve right? That top post sounds legit, makes sense. But much further than that is speculation. Any stipulation can be gotten around for a price. Apple requirements don't mean **** to me.

It cannot be an Apple requirement, since Apple stores won't have access to AT&T accounts, so their only option is to sell at no contract. What I was able to learn today implies that's correct as well. Plus think about this: does it make sense for Apple to incorporate a new sales service (ie - selling wireless phones) into their stores? No - it contravenes their commitment to simplicity. Also, you may be basing that assumption on the "2 year commitment required" that was intially stated on the iPhone commercials. Do you still see that on the commercials? Nope - it was removed.

I can say this with 100% certainty: the iPhone will not be available through any AT&T online sales channel, but it will be available through App...

The Phone will ONLY be available with new service, upgrades will not be available at the time of launch and neither will no contract sales.

Source?

Again, from everything I've seen so far, that's only the case for sales through AT&T Mobility sales channels. For Apple, unless AT&T and Apple want the headache of having new AT&T accounts set up by "geniuses", they'll be doing no contract sales.

This is the information att has told me/us in the telesales department and we are now telling the customers who are calling in. Before this info came out some reps even set up lines of service for a sim only and under no contract and told the customers to do an upgrade when it came out. Now those customers have to cancel and open a new account with apple to get the IPhone. Apple is limiting production so they can control who the sell it to and they will run out of stock before they run out of people signing up for new service.
