Is you COR store ready for the iPhone?

I dont mean to make ANOTHER thread about the iphone. But when i was speaking to my manager today I grew concerned that there was no real game plan on how the company will be handling the iPhone craze on the 29th. A few things come to mind.

1. Ok, so we are closing shop at 430 and opening again at 6. Aside from the internet buzz, I dont see this as being common knowledge for iphone customers. I also dont see the 6pm release time as being common knowledge. This means that we will have people hanging around all day waiting for the iphone just to get kicked out at 430. This is sure to cause a problem.

2. So we close the doors and the line forms outside if it hasnt already formed. What about regular customers who just want to get a c...

Nah a non-event. You can buy a real iPod and a nice phone for the cost of that. No matter how much Madison Ave hypes it in the public areana only kids who can't afford it will want it the most.

This is not the RAZR whch was sleek and actually appealed to much more of the demographic who were willing to put $500 on the table for one.

(I think they learned their lesson and undertand now why they call it "the bleeding edge"

I am surprised more people dont have something to say about this. Is anybody else wondering how their store is going to handle the crowds?

i do not work at a store but i for one can't wait for the iphone. i have been asking around so i can figure out the best way to get one on the 29th, but nobody knows anything. a few people i talked to that normaly are reliable all said they knew nothing now but the week of the release they would find out. i am curious so i know if i am going to be waiting in line all day or not?

IMO, if you want it on release day, order it from Apple.com. You wont GET it that day, but you're more likely to get one.

With no reserve in stores and limited availability and stores not even knowing how many they're going to get, it's definitely a clusterf*ck.

I think COR stores should handle it like stores have for all these console releases. There likely will be a line. Prepare tickets with numbers and the managers signature on them. When your iPhones come in, take out as many tickets as you have phones, and throw out the rest. When the line is forming, periodically go outside and inform the people of your stock, and ask for a show of hands as who is buying an iPhone. This will keep latecomers with NO possibility of getting a ...

We're not allowed to do tickets for people in line. Even though it makes sense. I understand where they are coming from though. What about the people that want one, but come up with a deposit and can't afford to pay it right there.

Then they can't get it...? I suppose you could run the credit check beforehand though.

There will be no "crowds" This is not Madden 2008.

How many kids do you think will want to spend 2-3 weeks worth of paychecks on a cell phone? Most of them ALREADY have an iPod?

Im telling you at $600 that phone will be a non-event. It is not a phone that will be a universal seller across all ages. Adults won't sepnd $600 for a toy when they can have a useful smart phone for the same price. Most kiddies won't be able to afford it.

Actually we've had a fair amount of "grown" people that can afford it and want it.

If there is a line or not, I think, will be determined by AT&T. Everyone that wants an iPhone already has their mind made but and will be there. The unknown at the moment seems to be what the plan and terms from AT&T for the iPhone will be.

As for crowd control and notifying employees; I've seen Apple stores at Christmas time, they know how to deal with crowds much better than ANY cell phone store I've ever visited on a normal weekend. I'll put my faith in the plan -- what ever that plan may be.

Just my two cents.

haha yea i can see it now.

We're only allowed one iPhone on the floor at a time per rep. And the manager has to be the "runner" so the phones aren't out of our sight.

From what I understand for all the phones, you have to go home and sync it with iTunes to get it to be completely activated.

This is all rumor, we haven't been told much officially yet.
