Cingular & T-Mobile in Northern California...
Hey All!
Need your help here. I will be switching to GSM by May of next year when my Verizon contract expires to be more "global". Want to get a Cingular or T-Mobile phone in December or January and use the winner side by side with Verizon to see which works better. If there are any user's or rep's out there who can share personal experiences of which they think is better in Northern & Southern California, I would appreciate any assistance.
1. Are the network's separated now...is Cingular on AT&T's GSM network and is T-Mobile on Cingular's. Also does Cingular run on 850 along with 1900 in California.
2. Need feedback on dropped calls, call quality, etc. I have looked at survey's, but looking for actual user's experiences.

I would say Cingular. The reason being is that now that Cingular has got the aquisistion done, when you get your phone, it will have a 64k sim card that will ALWAYS find the best network, even if it isn't Cingular/AT&T... Cingular offers open roaming, so, if in a given spot T- Mobile has the better coverage, you will be able to use it. Plus, Cingular has the better data coverage, T Mobile has not even begun to roll out edge, and Cingular has it availible in a lot places, I can get you a map, or you can look at the web site.

first of all i have both T mobile AND ATT (well cingular now) and i am in northern california, what i can say is this, i experience no dropped calls with either service, and almost no dead zones with either service, so at this point i would recommend for you picking the company with the best plan/phone for you, but one thing, the E105 is only a dual band phone (900/1900) so it wont work in europe as well as a tri band phone, cingular's phone selection sucks ass, t mobiles is better IMO, also NO ONE can touch t mobile's data/text plans, nor can anyone touch their blackberry plans, EDGE or not, its about cost when coverage is great, the only difference you are going to experience is that w/ cingular/ATT using the 850mhz in some spots you will ...

In about 20 days Cingular is about to dump a crapload of phones on the market. Phones that you can only get from Cingular plus a few others. Other than that i'm not sure what the t-mo plans are like but i think they are the only company with unlimited txt messaging if i'm not mistaken.

yeah they are, right now the unlimited txt for $9.99 is not currently offered, i presume that will be returning around christmas time, unlimited data for $4.99, 1000 text for $6.99, text is .05 sent and recieved, cingular is dumping a crapload of phones, this is true, but it still does not match up to the selection of phones that will work spectacularly on the tmobile network (any GSM phone that supports 19...

Cingular is supposed to have 29 phones avaliable on Day one. I don't know how many t-mo has but i've been told that's more than any other company.

again, with tmobile you can use ANY phone that has 1900mhz support and get great coverage here in our neck of the woods, that means any GSM phone avalible IN THE WORLD you can use with tmobile, thats more then any carrier :-D its just not branded w/ tmobiles name on it 😛

That's not anymore true than it is with the rest of the GSM providers. First they have to be unlocked because any GSM phone that is locked will not work. Most companys will not unlock their phones. Second most EU phones work on 1800 but not 1900. Some of them use 1900 too just like some of ours have the 1800.

lol all european phones are unlocked after contractual obligation is fufilled, there are a TON of european phones that we DO NOT have that support 1900mhz, hell start with the 6260

And you can use them on Cingulars network also as long as they are unlocked. Just replace the SIM same as T-mo. 1900 work everywere. 850 doesn't work everywere but 1900 does.
