Using 2 different phones by switching the SIM cards?

I know that AT&T uses SIM cards and the technology is GSM. I know that Verizon doesn't use a SIM and the technology is CDMA.

My question is: At AT&T, using one SIM card (having paid for only one SIM card) could a person be using two different phones by switching the SIM card back and forth?

If this is possible, is it also a good or bad idea? Meaning, are there any downsides to doing this switcheroo? ๐Ÿคจ

I just now thought about how billing would be for the scenario I described above. Would the billing just be the sum total of the minutes used on both phones? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Or must one go through AT&T to get a second SIM to put in that second phone โ€” to facilitate billing?

You can take a sim card out of any at&t phone and put it in another. Thats fine.

Like I have a BlackJack and a MOTO V3xx. I do it all the time...

Its fun! Try it. No billing issues here.

Dear Luckyboy 86 โ€”

What makes you decide which phone to use when and where? I don't know what a BlackJack is, so can't tell whether it is one of those PDAs etc.

It's technically a Smartphone, not at PDA/Pocket PC; but still a nice phone.

I have four phones that I go between. I don't "need" for phones, but I'm moody and want what I want.

Your phone number is attached to the SIM, no the handset, so it doesn't affect billing at all when you switch handsets.

and honest about it too. I just wish I could blame it on being hormonal or something.

Ralph โ€”

Aha..... sounds like you, Chocolateman, and Lucky86 are equipped with backups and are all the better for it!

That's pretty accurate of a description. I have three PDAs on hand, just in case one gets damaged, and I have a regular phone for when I don't want to carry a PDA around with me everywhere.

That sounds like a good back-up plan!

One line is an unlocked Motorola ROKR and the other line is a Nokia 6682, but sometimes put that sim in my Nokia 6620 when the 6682 acts up.
