AT&T Recepton

Years ago I had a TDMA Motorola V60i with AT&T and had no problems at all with it.

About two years ago my neighbors bought a Cingular/AT&T Sony-Ericsson and I had her bring her cell to my house to experiment. The connection was spotty and unclear.

When will AT&T put up more towers? I like the idea of GSM phones, but I make most of my calls from my upstairs office and I need good reception. I need to be able to reach someone and hold on to the call.

Just FYI Lorna I was reading your post in the general forums, you are aware you can swap verizon phones really easy using your online account ESN switcher? It take all of about a minute to go from one verizo phone to the next.

Why go through all that, and pay $20 if you don't have internet access, when you can just switch your sim card?

Can you use some periods and question marks next time? That would be helpful. Not just for me, but for others as well.

Well a lot has changed in two years your best bet is to sign up and try it for 30 days and see if it works out for you. Also the sony's from 2 years ago pale in comparison to the sony's today. Also a word of advice, try and stay with nokia or sony ericsson if you want the best results.

I believe Lorna lives in California, which is why I've remained silent on this topic until now. I was waiting for a local to give her an idea of coverage. I know we had some problems out there back when we bought out at&t wireless.

Ralph you're right and you have a RAZR sharp memory, young man! BTW, my website was updated last July '06 and it has a lot of newer pix both historic and contemporary. http://web.mac.com/lorna6

If you have added to yours, please send URL!

Back to business: I realize that those coverage maps cannot be totally accurate so maybe I CAN get reception in my house, and maybe with a Samsung a990 it would get great reception, but the map on the AT&Twebsite makes it clear that for me it is "iffy."

Oh, wait: Does that Samsung a990 even have GSM with AT&T? I'd have to check!

Nope. The a990 is CDMA only.

Hmm. What would be the AT&T equivalent? (If in case I AM able to get good reception at my house with AT&T.) Wait... I will go and take a look myself. So far I have not done that.

Ralph, OK, I will return to the AT&T site and check out the Samsung A717.

What is the difference between the 700s and the 900s?
(Something wants to tell me that the 900s are more recent and possibly therefore.... better.)

Turn your picture right side up so I can see it better, please! 🙂

different carriers so there is no relevance to the model numbers.

Hi Chainsaw,

1) If I sign up and return the cell phone within those 30 days, how much of my initial cash outlay will I get back? In other words, what would I be paying for the 30-day trial period?

2) I bought the Nokia because it was the only one at that time (2005) which didn't have the OBEX feature of the BlueTooth disabled by Verizon. As a result I was able to take pix and upload via BlueTooth for free.

Now, however, it seems that the (Nokia) BlueTooth earbud feature isn't working that well in my bedroom.

I also like that Samsung SCH A990. Can't deny that.

3) I was reading some articles on User Satisfaction yesterday and noted that Verizon gets the highest score for that, by ten percentage points.

This is how it works in my market so I'm not sure how it would work in yours, but from day 1-3 you only pay prorate charges. From day 4-30 you pay prorated charges plus the activation fee. You should get 100% refund on equipment.

The closest thing to the a990 is the a717 as of now there are also rumored some new samsungs coming out this summer.

None of our phones have OBEX disabled so you shouldn't have that is a search criterion.

As far as user satisfation...those are only opinions 😛

Chainsaw, thanks for the information. I now know to ask what the prorate charges are. I did a lot of research on the Samsung SCH A990 and do recall reading that there will be some new models coming out. I hope they hurry. 😁

So the good news about AT&T is that they do not disable the OBEX profile. I like that.

As for opinions ....... but, that is the point of reviews, they are opinions, and when a lot of people have the same opinion one tends to put more faith in it. But you are right: opinions have no standards to opine by, so there is a lot of room for flexible error.
