Question about unlocking...........
If you unlock a GSM phone that was under a different carrier to use under at&t, will it kill the functionality of the phone {minus the programs of the previous carrier}?

As long as it offers the 850/1900 signals it will work. Pending manufacturer it may lack options. IE BB will barely work from another provider. On basic phones its usually things like Medianet that suffer, but calls should be fine, as well as general site browsing.

Not sure. I think it would have initial problems because of the internet, but once internet is set up I believe it will work. Its better to get an unlocked base phone than an unlocked phone from Tmo or some other carrier. If you do get a Tmo phone, you will have to contact tech support and have the phone flashed for ATT usage. Otherwise the internet will not work at all, and thus no MMS.
