Cingular Extend or is it?

My phone I use in Europe all of a sudden works where I live. I can only assume because the 1900 band that att uses in the area have converted to cingular. My phone says cingular extend but is it really since they now own these towers? Will the message on screen change?
Anyone ideas?

any Alpha tags that show Cingular Extend will be replaced to simply "Cingular" by year's end
