iphone and 2 years questions

brandyT

You guys who are paying 500-600 dollars for a iphone and signing a two year contract. I am sure you will keep the phone atleast that long since it is so expensive. In two years technology will have advanced so much and with the iphone not being 3G, is it going to be outdated in a few months? What do you guys think.
PS - The people who already own the iphone, is it easy to set it up? is web browsing superior to other phones?

Yeah...if you DO need to replace the phone, its most likely at the retail price. And to do so, you would have to re-new your contract for another 2 years...it seems like if you DO own the Iphone, your a bit fancy with it now but wait a little bit till Sprint is on their Wimax network....AT&T is BARELY on 3G, Sprint has had it since '03 and now has EV-DO REV-A available pretty much everywhere! Average download speeds of 800-1.2 MBPS with peak rates of 3.1 MBPS......!

I can answer one of your questions with certainty.

is web browsing superior to other phones?

Nope.

The browser is Safari which is currently crap.

Not only that, but the Iphone currently doesn't support Flash or Java; which is laughable when you consider the wide scale use of both on the internet.

Yeah, it should be interesting to see people's reactions when they realize half of the websites they go to won't work right on the Iphone due to Safari or the lack of flash/java support.

Only future updates can save them now.

On the Iphone you could do an "upgrade" at anytime in your contract and sign a new two year. With the release of future Iphones do you think they will have the same policy? So if a new 3G Iphone comes out, then they could go get that one as well if they feel they need to update. Essentially putting Iphone purchasers into a vicious cycle of Iphone addiction. Need a new phone, get an Iphone. If you phone breaks there is no insurance(other than home owners, or boat owners if you drop it in the water) so you are stuck buying a phone outright regardless.

yea but u can also upgrade to the iphone wait a week then return it and get of the contract all together.

I thought it returned you to your prior contract terms, not a full cancellation.
