iPhone issues - 2% unactivated - nearly all stores sold out

NEW YORK (Reuters) - About 2 percent of people who bought the keenly-awaited iPhone, launched on Friday by Apple Inc. (Nasdaq:AAPL - news), have been experiencing delays in activating their service, a person familiar with the matter said on Sunday.

Telecommunications firm AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T - news), the iPhone's exclusive carrier for two years, said it was working on fixing issues related to the delays.

AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel described the problems as partly technology related and partly process related.

"We're just looking at everything to get customers activated in a timely fashion," said Siegel. He added that the problems were diminishing.

AT&T only has the iPhone for 2 years? I thought they had it for 5 years for some reason...

Considering the Apple and AT&T press releases are stated differently I would agree with you that it is possibly longer. I am not sure why this particular reporter has stated the "2 year" exclusivity.
