About the Blackberry Pearl From the Ones Who Own It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was looking into getting the Red Blackberry Pearl as my 1st smartphone. I was wondering how the people who own it like it? What are the good and the bad of the phone? I am coming from the crappy POS razr, so I am sure it will be alot better than that 🙂 Also, can you download opera mini as the web browser? And does the pearl have preloaded IM applications? Thank you so much for the insight 🙂

The pearl is a okay phone. I had both the pearl and curve. If your looking for a blackberry I would go with a curve. Much better features (camera multimedia apps) There is a IM application but it takes away from texts it doesn't use internet data. I'm not sure about opera mini, but the pre installed browser shows full html and its a pretty good browser.

I have unlimited texts anyways so that doesnt bother me. I am trying to wait on the upgrade to the 8800, which is supposed to be out later this year and have wi-fi ( i like how the 880 loks but dont want to get that) 🙂

I can tell you for sure, because I've played with it, that there are no downloaded IM programs on the Pearl.

The pearl does support opera browsers. I would highly recomend the curve over the pearl though.

I love my pearl. It does not come loaded with an I.M. app. You just load it on yourself. It is called rambler it will let you get aol and I am sure other I.M. programs are possible. You CAN load the opera browser. I haven't had a problem with speed or display from the blackberry browser. Plus you can load a program on the phone that changes the color of the trackball. You can't do that on the curve 😁 The only benefit to the curve is the desktop software and speaker sound (music) is better. Hope it helps

not to mention screen size, camera, qwerty keyboard, 3.5mm headset.

I love the Pearl! It's my third BB, and I couldn't be happier. As of today, I (finally) switched to using one device for both phone and BB. I had a 7130 for my email device, and the Pearl for main voice device. I wanted to make sure the the Pearl would hold it's own as a multi-function device... and it did!
PROS:
The thing is light, has a great LCD screen, chock full of features, and a great phone quality. Trackball sensitivity is adjustable - which is awesome! True one-handed functionality.
CONS:
Unlocking it can be a pain in the ass sometimes, screen scratches easily - invest in a case! I wish the speaker for the MP3 player was a tad louder. My KRZR would be loud enough to hear with the shower running. This, hardly.
The positi...
