i have a v400 and it says it supports ems but i cant send ringtones from my phone to my pc in a mms why is that, im i missing something here? Second question(which is going to involv a totally different subject) Can anyone give me a ball park figure about how much the v551 and z500a will cost? And recommend which one i should look into because they almost look idnetical when it comes to features.

are you trying to send the built in ringtones or downlaoded ringtones to your pc?. if so, those are locked, and cannot be moved around.

v551 - $99 after rebate
z500 - $79 after rebate

not sure of z500 differences, but the 551 is the v400 PLUS video capture/play...

Jinx, do you know what the z500 will cost paying full price? I'm not getting a new contract or anything, so I'll just have to pay the full price?

It should be between $200-250, depending on how much the store had to pay for it. The official list price is $199.99, but if a store has to pay more than that to buy the phone, they definitely wont sell it that cheaply.

Thanks Ralph. I'm ready to get a new phone and am gonna have to pay full price. I'm just kinda undecided as to which one I want.

I know a lot of people like Motorola, but my girlfriend has the v400, and I'm just not crazy about it. I guess I'm just used to nokia and se by now. Guess a lot of it is personal prefernce.

I also know different people are gonna have different opinions on this question: Which phone company do you like in terms of reception? Or, is reception mainly based on carrier?

Thanks

ems and mms are not related. Phones can be MMS capable and will still not send MMS unless it is active on your account. This sounds like the problem. You will have to add one of the MMS packages to your phone (at pay per use, $2.99, or $9.99), and then power cycle your phone so the settings are updated. When you're receiving a data signal you'll notice a little squarish icon appear next to your signal strength.

ok im still a little confussed so bear with me. I have a v400 and on the spec sheet it says it supports ems and mms. I have the media package for (19.99) so i should be on my way right? Does the new v551 support ems so i can send ringtones to a email address or another phone? When i tried to send a ring tone it was one i downloaded from a website and did not come locked so i dont see why it wouldnt send.

Thanks for having patience

ems is a diff standard than mms. mms sends picture files only. you can send an mms to a phone number and an email. ems is for sending picture files and small sound clips. you can send ems to other cell phones only. does that help?

I think you're getting ems and sms mixed up. ems is for our new enhanced network preferences which are utilized with 64K sims, sms is for text messaging and everything else you just mentioned.

No, you're thinking of ENS.

The original question was about EMS, which is like a cross between SMS and MMS.

No, MMS is not just for pictures, and EMS cannot support voice clips. You might have the two backward. MMS is the newer and more advanced one.

EMS is an enhanced version of SMS. It lets you send longer text, and also small ringtones and graphics.

MMS is the one that lets you send photos, videos, voice clips, etc. - even mixed together in a slideshow, if you want.
