Here we are on Day One, and after going to three AT&T (new Cingular) stores and none of them could migrate customers over to Cingular due to system problems according to each store. Other customers seemed to be confused and the people behind the counter didn't have many answers to help anyone.
One big suprise today was the lack of phones, the Cingular branded models only yielded like 4 or 5 models...with 3 of them being carried over from AT&T.
Also...no regional plans are offered til Nov. 20th, only Cingular Nation plans until then.
We need new phones and an actual selection of models to choose from, anyone know if some or any more phones are coming soon?

It is the first day, many people trying to do the same thing is probably part of the reason why there is a system issue. As for the phone selection, that depends on the retail store.
...
That's not necessarily the case. It appears that some services are not migratable right now depending on rate plan and market.
This issue has been brought up to the IT dpt for correction.
As far as phones in stores, what you see is what they have.

I work in customer care and while we were busy today, I personally had no problems with the system. I was able to migrate three lines, two national plans and one regional. Haven't heard anything about regional not being available until the 20th.
...
I work in AWS care and I have yet to have a single customer migrate their servcie over, but our que is HGUE. 😁
...
i went into a att store and told me that their would be a $35 migration fee is this true?
...
18 dollar migration, and you might be entitled to a rebate for sending in or trading your at&t phone depending on the model.
...
The 'trade-in' credits are in store only, I might add. And, if I read the info correctly, the credit is just that, a credit. It will show up on your invoice within 5-7 weeks (i.e. 1-2 billing cycles)
...
I don't understand the delay in billing cycles on all this phone stuff (including SBC).
In the old days, accounting was done manually and on paper; but with everything being computerized, it should take no more than a month. Just wondering why the long delay. 🙂

I'm at a cingular co owned store, we have over 15 phones to choose from with more to come from at&t. It seems like you walked into incompetent stores, which doesn't say much for the caliber of original at&t employees.
You need to visit a Cingular store, we at least have a better understanding of our current systems. Although we trained and planned for today, you have to understand that this merger is big and will take some time to iron out some stuff.

Im not reading through all the replies, but i don't know if anyone has covered this, but how can you say little selection of phones? have you been to verizon, or tmobile lately? we have roughly 20 - 25 phones. Verizon, sprint, tmobile have 15 if lucky, and yes we have new phones coming out with the v551, razr v3, z500, and etc.. We stopped regional plans with out rollover due to roaming charges, and customers not understanding the plan, and calling in for credits, are nation plans are better with no roaming, rollover, unlimited mobile to mobile to any cingular or at&t customer. and depends how long you been with cingular, but back in the day we only had about 10 phones and had the same phones for about 1 yr without getting new phones, not...

Verizon and T-Mobile are two very different cellular providers, with a totally different variety of phones to choose from...Verizon outdoing T-Mobile easily in phone selection.
The issue at hand is that was available on Day One, the top message will explain what was meant by the title.
There are new phones coming to the new Cingular, but what was on the shelves and how things were handled where I went on the first day was a suprise. Things will get much better, i'm sure, but it's a matter of how long it will take to make a positive impact for AT&T customers to migrate over with a Cingular phone.
