SK Telecom Vice Chairman Cho Jung-nam told an Internet news provider E-Daily that the company has pushed for the purchase of Sprint Nextel, and is still contacting related companies for the purpose. "(The negotiations) are still underway," Cho was quoted

SKT is a good company. It'd be good for Sprint if SKT bought them and their customers probably wouldn't notice the change. I say good for Sprint, and good for competition, which makes it good for everyone.

With SK Telecom being GSM, will that mean Sprint will switch to GSM if they're taken over by SK?

do you honestly know how stupid that is? GSM? They don't have the money to outright buy sprint as it is and if they get the money through investors then they would never be able to convert to GSM. And bieng that GSM will be replaced by WCDMA why would they?

ANd this is by no way a done deal. They are in no position to buy sprint and if they can't get investors it will never get further then what it is now. An interest!

even if this does happen..the sprint name won't go anywhere..sprint has to much name recognition in the US...it will most likely be a deal like verizon's and vodaphone.

no they will buy it completely or not at all. But your right the name will not change. I don't think any company from another country change the name. Americans won't be able to relate to a name change

T-Mobile isn't exactly in a danger of being bought by AT&T. Their holdings in the US might be small, but internationally they're a giant. So it'll only happen if their parent company decides it's really in their best interests to ditch their US holdings.

I don't see them getting that impatient anytime soon.

Well. Voicestream became T-Mobile after they were bought out. But then that was a case where in the grand scheme of things, the T-Mobile name probably had a lot more value to it than the Voicestream one. 😛

More rumors, more investors. So far SK Telecom is "seeking" to buy out Sprint, and still have to confirm with inverstors. Not very smart if you ask me. Sk Telecom should have the money first, and then negotiate.

I find it hard to believe that Sprint is going to be bought out, especially by SK Telecom.

Not to say SK Telecom doesn't have money, but I guess I may be in dis-belief.

MCI, at one point, was looking to buy Sprint. That didn't fall through. Then there were rumors that Verizon was looking to buy Sprint. None of this happened. Sprint happened to buy Nextel.

I believe Sprint has invested too much money and believes Mobile Wi-MAX will change the wireless game. Mobile Wi-MAX will open the doors for wireless.

SKT does not have the money. They are only worth 13 billion. Verizon would not benifit from buying them. It would be more of a headache then anyhting. Overlaped coverage sell off of towers and other diversities they would be forced to go through. MCI got bought out themselves! Also regardles of what sprint believes they can not stop a buyout if one wants them bad enough! They can make it close to impossible though!

It's all in the eyes of the stock holders. Never thought SKT had a chance. Invest, yes.

They just need to find a mismanagement middle-ground. Too dysfunctional to be seen as a prime target. But not so dysfunctional that they can be acquired for a song because the stockholders are jumping ship.
