Why don't we have any text centric phones?

I'm just wondering why we have no phonnes that have a full keypad like the Envy or Ocean. I know AT&T just got on the unlimited texting bandwagon, but there are customers who would eat up a phone with a full keyboard thats not a Blackberry, Treo, or Window's mobile device. Any info?

We had two different ones and they sat on the shelf. Maybe they are gunshy about investing in another.

Yeah, but that was quite a while ago and they were super expensive. Run one around $99 after MIR and they'll fly out of the stores.

We carried both the LG 9100 and the LG9200. The 9200 was discontinued about a year ago.

We had the one at $169 after MIR not $99. It would be nice to see a new model that we can sell to hype the unlimited text package though. Maybe one with a SureType like predictive text.

The F9100 went for $99 after MIR the last 5 months before it was discontinued (after it was discontinued it sold for $49 after MIR and we still had issues blowing through the remaining stock) in the North Texas market. The F9200 was released at the same $99 after MIR.

Also both of them were very ugly phones that resembled a featureless brick. Its nothing like the SCH-U740 that verizon has. If we had the gsm version of this they would sell like hotcakes.

If I recall correctly we have a two way flip qwerty keyboard samsung. Also did not sell very well.

I like full size keyboard phones too but they just aren't bread and butter.

It was a phone as he described that did not sell well.

We have the Blackjack now anyways and it does quite well.

Crack, if you notice it wasn't really the star of its time. It was boxy, bulky and jam-packed with low end features (like the monochrome external display). I don't think it really lived up to the durability test either.

If AT&T were to release a version that was actually up to par with the standards of 'now,' I'm quite sure it would be at least somewhat a hit compared to Cingular's feeble attempts at a text-centric phone in the past. Afterall, they have made their text packages MUCH more appealing than they were when these other phones were introduced.

ditto on this. I love my 8525 but i hat taking it to the bar or using it driving. It's like excuse me I have to text someone on my brick. We should have that Samsung there has to be a gsm version with similar features.

because the four that we released were not that successful... samsung d307, lg f9100, lg f9200, motorola a630... like verizon cripples bluetooth we cripple wap browsing while in landscape mode (which is how it goes when the phone was using the qwerty keyboard)...

I'm not even too concerned about browsing, but I've had a few could be ports that really are looking for a texting device not a web browser. I'd like to see us have just one device that caters to the texting market. Either that or reduce the price of unlimited data/text packages for the Blackberry or PDA devices.

you can do an unlimited text package without data... on any device that has a qwerty keyboard...

Not if you want a rebate. I've had three people in the last week who have taken off the data package after they got their rebate only to have it added on their bill a cycle later.

The Samsung d307 was extremely over priced and under featured. Combined with the lack of advertising, it was a failure from the start.

The f9100 and f9200 were out for only a few month each. The 9200 had software issues. neither was given a fair chance.

The A630 was never released outside a few test markets. That could have been a great phone, but was ahead of it's time.

I'm watching for the dual slider from Pantech (similar to the ocean) due out in the next few months.

it's still gonna need advertising......the en-v gets more air play than a pimp at a hoe down. none of our text phones besides the blackjack ever got that much air play and look at it. every teen and their parent ...

Yea I agree.. AT&T only recently started doing specific phone commercials (with the exception of the Razr).

Look how many people come in asking about those phones that are advertised...

They didn't sell because they were crappy looking phones and they didn't offer features that were wanted by the people who would by a phone like that. Plus its timing. When Cingular released them, texting wasn't as BIG as it is now so of coarse they wouldn't sell as well as they would now. If AT&T releases a GOOD one now, they definatley would sell like hotcakes but they better be insurable.

I'd love to see a phone like the Ocean. Helio might not have much going for it but great looking phones might be what gets them some customers. I'd just like to see us get some nice looking texting phones that will help us retain customers from VZ. Good point on the insurance. If we had it on PDA's things would be much easier.

I'm in agreement.. we definitely need a texter. That's where younger shoppers are going, hence the popularity of the ENV series at Verizon.

I'd love to have a slide or flip texter with MP3 and 3G capabilities. Yeah, they'd probably get put on the lowest talk plan, but you know you're going to get the unlimited text and or media max on it.

Thats a damn good question. I really think they should roll out a new add campaign for unlimited text and a text based phone like the enV. I know personally I would kill for a qwerty based SE or Nok phone that wasn't a smart phone. But no, we have to settle for at&t...raising the bar crap advertising. Hello?!? What year is it 2004 again? They just took all of cingulars advertising for the past 3 years and threw the name at&t in it. Verizon kicks the crap out of our advertising campaign.
