Question about Premier Account customers.

I'm really cunfused (nothing new for me šŸ˜• ). Can someone please help clear this up for me? I receive a monthly discount on my Cingular (AT&T) bill because I enetered the FAN# of my employer's group. That also allows me access to the Premire Account web site. When I go on the website, it says that because I am a Premier customer I can upgrade my phone pretty-much anytime I want (with a discount) even if I'm only a few months into a contract. When I asked about this over the phone with "regular account" customer service, they said, "NO. You can't get a discount to upgrade until the end of your contract." BUT, the website says I can. Plus, I've had conversations with people on here who say they've done it too. I assume if I do that, my ...

If the website says "upgrade" then it's a 2-year renewal. You'll have to do it through the premiere website though.

BTW, your account is in the same system as any other individual customer, you just have a discount code attached to your account, meaning your account is still considered a "regular account".

Yeah, I figured it would restart my two year contract each time I did it. So (theoretically) if I wanted to do this now, I could get a new phone at the discount even though I’m only 5 months into my current contract? Interesting.

I thought about that too. I think I'll wait until they have a phone I really want on there before I do it. The thought did cross my mind that I could get a free phone, then sell it along with my current phone on ebay. That would bring almost enough cash to flat-out buy an unlocked phone of my choice elswhere. But like I said in my original post, even though I could do it, I don't think I should. It almost feels dishonest. I'll wait.

I'm sad to admit that I am directly associated with the Premier folks, and can tell you personally that the Premier site is messed up far worse than you can believe.

First, the Premier site doesn't actually tell you if a line is eligible or not (it doesn't reference your account at all unless you entered the site through OLAM), it simply allows you to start any transaction, but if you're not actually eligible, you won't be able to actually get the phone.

Upgrade as many times as you want at the 2 year contract price? Ha!

Also, if you have a FAN attached to your account, than the Premier site will automatically launch from OLAM when you go to shop. Nice, right? Well, sorta - it means you'll always be able to shop from the Premie...

All I know is that I've already talked to people who have done it. They have upgraded at a discount multiple times within a year. When I log in to the Premier site I have to type in my FAN#. Then on the next screen I have to type in my zip code, cell number, and AT&T account number. Once I'm in, the site is saying that I am eligible to upgrade. *shrug*

I'm not surprised - the biggest problem we have is consistency. Some people can upgrade without being eligible, others will just have the order cancelled. With the eligibility checked on the back end, there's really no way to know beforehand, you'd just get the message saying you're eligible, but you can't really know for sure if you're actually going to be able to do it.

You can't ever expect to be able to upgrade when you're not eligible, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen to some folks.

I'm part of one of the teams that supports the site, and we've got a mighty laundry-list of things that need to be changed about the site, and that particular issue is just about the top of the list.

Well shove it back down to the bottom. I might want to upgrade my phone before my contract is up! šŸ˜‰

Haha - You forget, this is AT&T. Nothing gets done unless it stops them from making money. šŸ™„

The only people that are complaining about the Premier site are the customers that notice the problems (who only use the site once every 2 years anyway, so they're not complaining very often) and the people who support the site (directly or indirectly), such as yours truly.

Upgrade away! 😁

So are you saying a Premier customer can upgrade their phone "without" having to extend their contract?
Is there a direct line to the Premier desk where one can talk to a rep that knows the rules and exception for premium customers?
I am a Premier Customer on a plan that can
be replaced so I've gone on without a contract but not want a new phone. It says I'm eligible for a "upgrade" but I don't want to change my plan. I think it would be cheaper for me just to buy a phone than pay a higher monthly price.
Can I get a new AT&T sim card to replace on old AT&T card, I never switched over to Cingular......Thanks!

No. I'm saying that it appears to be set up in a way that some Premier customers can upgrade their phone at the discounted rate whenever they want..BUT your contract will start over each time you do it. I haven't tried it yet, but others on here have and it worked for them. Some of the discounted rates on the Premier site are OK, but others aren't that great. You could almost buy an unlocked phone for about the same price and not have to extend your contact at all.
