We have 2 V400's. Have had them since Feb 2004. Bought them in Atlanta and the recpetion was generally great. Different story now that we are based in Dallas, actually Frisco TX. Reception in many areas, including my house, is very weak. My wife and I both have a problem with the phone dropping calls when we puch the answer key. Example, i push the answer key on the 2nd or 3rd ring and there is nobody there, only a message telling us we missed a call. This happens many times and has happened with both of our phones. We want to upgrade, and the Moto V551 seems to be getting great reviews. My question, with the problems we have had, will they let us upgrade our phones, which are now 9 months old. Any hepl on how we can accomplish th...

Did you sign up on a one year contract or a two year? Also, if you give us your zip code the reps can pull up a detailed coverage map of the area to see if it's the phone, or the area that's giving you the problem. CS may mail you a phone via telesales after you've had your phone for a year. Keep in mind those phones cost about $249.99 at full price, and every time we give out a phone we lose money. The option to buy a new phone at full price is always available to you.

You can also call tech support and they can look up to see if you're on the "blue" or "orange" network. They can try switching you to the other to see if it improves reception

I think (have to try to dig up our contract) that we signed a 2 year deal. We got the phones just after they came out, so we paid quite a bit for them, so this is not an instance where Cingular would lose $$ on the equipment since we paid quite a bit for them in the first place. If i remember correctly we paid about $199.00 each. I also understand that there have been quite a few people unhappy with the reception for these phones, and would expect the carrier (and equipment maker) to stand behind the equipment. Since we did pay a nice price I do not think it would be out of line for them to let us upgrade.

If you have the capability to look at a network map, we are in zip code 75034. To narrow it down even further, we are only ab...

Also, one thing I meant to include in my last post. I have always had Nokia as one of my best friends works for Nokia (higher up in the NOKIA USA HQ in Las Colinas) for Nokia, so I have always used Nokia. In fact, i have had the top phones from Nokia before they were released to the public and have gotten them for free, so for me to spend $$$ on a phone, especially from a competitor to Nokia, means that I expect them to work correctly.

Call me crazy, but why I am being punished for signing a 2year agreement instead of a 1 year agreement??? Went in with the 2 v400's we are having problems with, was told since they are less than 1 year old that i can call the 800#, explain my problems and Cingular will send me 2 new V400's to swap out with my current V400's. So i asked about an upgrade to the V551 and was told I cant upgrade until I am 21 months into my 24 month contract, but if I had signed a 1 year agreement I could upgrade now. Hmmm....how does this make sense? People who sign a shorter agreement get to upgrade faster?????? That's nuts!!!

Well if you sign a one year you get $50 off the phone. If you sign a 2 year you get about $100 off the phone. So if you sign a 1 year contract you get your $50 off but you can get $50 off a second phone a year. But if you sign a two year you get $100 off a phone but you have to wait. So it is exacly the same thing.
