it sounds pretty funny everywhere else, but here in NC where AT&T customers are being transitioned to a smaller regional carrier (meaning their service may get worse as a result) rather than to Cingular it may be a good clause. Is there anyone around who can corraborate this clause? I've got a couple of AT&T cust's who'd like to port here in NC, but don't wanna get stuck with a fee. That'd be a HELL of a boon to be able to tell them that thier contract requires they be let out cause of this buyout goin the way it did here.
Si Senor! Es la veridad!
Yes it's true no ETF when Migration to Cingular. Just beware that when you process their migrations to charge an activation ($36) but th...

Whatthe previous poster was saying that since cingular bought att people could just simply opt out of their att contracts, which is wrong since your service is not ipacted, they simply own the keys to the buildings, towers and plans you were on.
That clause was placed on the eventual possibility that customers may get "sold" to another carrier, and thats there for the customer sake, not for every excuse under the sun

If you are a customer of the former ATT wireless and are sent to a regional carrier rather then migrated into cingular ,this is done without a contract, since this is not who signed up for originally but if you want to cxl as a result of that then yes the ETF is waived since that is drastically changing your service.

The whole point of the "original" post was to clarify whether people could get out of their ATTWS contracts w/out etf, as had been advertised on other forums. We've pretty much already established that they can migrate over to Cingular w/out etf, but the story is going around that the merger (takeover, whatever) constitutes a breech of contract on AT&T's part, thereby allowing people to go to VZW, Sprint, T-Mo or whoever with no contractual concequences. The answer is... and unequivocal NO, THE MERGER DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A MAJOR CHANGE IN SERVICE TO LET YOU OUT OF YOUR CONTRACT.
And please. Don't go around telling people that they will get a credit for the $18 mi...
