I've been a LOYAL fan of Cingular (A.K.A. AT&T) for MANY years..as a matter of fact I've been going month to month for the past 3 years. However, I travel frequently to coastal area of N.C. (zip 27932). Cigular has never had coverage in that area. I'm seriously considering switching to Sprint or Verizon since it looks like their maps cover that area...I'd REALLY appreciate ANY suggestions! THANKS!

I can't speak for att about getting coverage. However I lived in coastal NC 28532. And verizon just rolled out coverage in those areas within the last 2 years. They are spotty and you are in extended network (alltel) alot. Sprint has very good coverage there. Now with that said verizon is working hard on towers in the area and soon will be on par with others! And tmobile has 0 coverage in NC!
...
Thanks..My daughter is not a fan of Verizon...so I'm most assuredly looking for advice from the ones in the know! Thanks again...
...
what state do you live in?
...
I'm currently in Ky...but I travel to N.C. frequetly as that's where my elderly mother lives...
...
oh ok. Well you should pick in my opinion what is a good carrier were you live more importantly then were you visit. I don't know if alltel is in that area but no one comes close to them in either sc or nc when it comes to coverage.
...
They do have alltel there but it's VERY limited in KY...Thanks
...
well all I can talk about is eastern NC. Which the top carrier is alltel for coverage then sprint. att bad tmobile doesn't exist and suncom horrible. Verizon is improving rapidly but not close to good coverage yet!
...
I went by the Sprint store today & gave them the zip code (27932), unfortunately, they advised me the coverage would be very spotty...so that rules them out. 🙄 .I keep hearing so many negatives about verizon on the boards that I'm hesitant to switch to them.. 😕
...
personal I don't like them as a company but you can't deny they are good. however they are good. But they do let you try it for 30 days and they will pay your bill if you choose not to go with them in the 30 days. Just don't port your number until your sure!
...
Verizon only pays your bill if you choose not to go with them IF you port your number over first. If you want to keep your old number with your current carrier in case you don't stay, you have to pay the pro-rated portion of the monthly bill. If you port your number and then switch back, I think AT&T will make you sign a new 2 year contract rather than go back to month-2-month.
I'm in NC (Raleigh/Durham area) and my service SUCKS! My family is all in an area where Verizon doesn't offer service, so they all were with Cingular and when Cingular started offering service in Virginia I switched from Verizon to Cingular and was pretty happy with the switch. After moving to NC, I've been so unhappy with my service, I'm thinking about switchi...

verizon is lousy in Eastern NC why would you jsut make a blanket statement like that! man get off their you know what!
...

I just feel recruiting for a company is not right. Verizon only a year ago built out their network in Eastern NC. It is very very spotty. In a year or two it may be great. Sprint has been in Eastern NC for over 5 years now. Them and alltel have the best coverage. And alltel is the only carrier with EVDo there. But alltel is not were he lives from what he says. So if spritn is there and good which I dunno cuz I am not there his first choice as much as I hate to say it is sprint.
So in closing he asked what would be good. Most have a 30 day trial period. Sorry you just sounding like a salesman there.
...
I just spent a week just to the east and coverage on att has been pretty good. Others in my party with Sprint had trouble and last year when I was on TMobile it was touch and go. Verizon was in the middle. So I'm not sure about options from a national carrier.
...
were did you go? Here is how I look at travaling. I don't care if its my carrier or roaming. Just as long as I can use my phone. With sprint they roam off of more carriers then anyone.
2 years ago I visited my uncle in farmville VA. Their was only one carrier that worked at his house and 2 miles in any direction. A local carrier. My wife at the time had cingular and the other couple we went with both had verizon. I was the only one that could roam on the local carrier. So I think that is what you need to look at too if you travel!
