Towers & EDGE

Hello all just have a couple of questions regarding towers and EDGE.

1. Is there some type of locator or website, that you can go to or use to see what towers are in your area?

2. And is there a way to find out if EDGE is available in your area?

Thanks in advance... 🙂

Go to Cingular.com. Click on data packages. Then there will be an icon to click on the map to show GPRS and EDGE.

To use EDGE, your phone has to have that as a feature, right?

I believe so, but your area must support EDGE also before you can use it or (and I'm assuming) it will stay the same and nothing will change.

OK, thanks. My phone isn't enabled to my knowledge, but I'm sure it's in my area (large metro area). But since I don't use the Net that much, guess it won't matter to me. 😉

Those zip codes are in an interesting area. Both AT&T and Cingular have EDGE enabled for these markets. EDGE is just a software upgrade and not an infrastructure change. Hope this helps.

I live in New Orleans, LA and I was using my brother's V551 EDGE phone with a data plan to connect my laptop to the internet via a bluetooth connection to the phone. WOW, TALK ABOUT FAST! It is awesome having broadband connection to the internet anywhere you go. It's a shame Cingular is such a damn ripoff and charges $29.99 for 10MB a month or $79.99 for unlimited. Although it's only GPRS, T-Mobile's unlimited data plan is only $19.99 to add to an existing voice plan. I hope Cingular realizes that they are over-charging for the data plans. Right now, it seems it's designed for businesses, but it should be for the home user as well. What's the point of this great service if the majority of the customers can't afford it?

t-mobile unlimited GPRS plan is $29.99 (per the website). pc/data cards with all carriers are around the price for unlimited. Verizon-79.99, Sprint-80.00(300mb). nobodies being riped off, that's industry pricing. media net unlimited on your phone is only 19.99 with Cingular, however you will find people that tell you that you can't use it connected to a pc/laptop. But i did with my 6230 and it worked fine. 🙂
