Upgrading Oddity
1. Can I "upgrade" to the Audiovox5600 at a an AT-T store?
2. (I'd even be willing to just buy it outright @ about $200, but they want $319)
3. Would it need unlocking to work w/ new Cingular SIM?
Only thing about getting this Windows Mobile smartphone is to make sure that Cingular is supporting those type of phones, since to use the internet on it, the data plans are completely different than the MEdia plans that Cingular offers, and your SIM card probably wouldn't work, since AT&T's and Cingular's SIM's are totally different as well.
P.S.
1. first priority as a phone
2. second priority as a PDA
3. not interested in web browsing on handset
4. nice to occasionally to provide web access for my laptop - not essential.

I thought any GSM phone could work if it's unlocked? Are you saying that ATT's Av-5600 Smartphone won't work as is, or that it cannot be modified to work at all?

Cingular is currently testing the 5600 to see if they are going to offer it or not. Currently Cingular is not supporting the MS Windows platform and many of the features that...

Oh, forgot about the MPX220. It still is not readily available in the RETAIL channel other than at BEST BUY. The new Siemens SX66 is supposed to be promising but have not yet had the opportunity to demo it.
um, but it IS still availible for sale and for purchase, where a person buys the phone is irrelevant

if you really want to get it from cingular, have your local store special order it. it will take 2-3 days to come in, but they will only order it if you DEFINITELY will buy it.
