it's friendly competition on the part of the carriers....some people take that WAY too far. As for a practicality....if your friends are on the same carrier as you are you can take advantage of M2M and MMS services. Other than that...A and B don't matter.

I have to agree w/ SLIMHIMZ81. I personally think there should only be one carrier and one plan. But of course that would just make things too easy.

hmm...well there is this guy who wants to make the internet, tv, cell phone, and all things similar, all on one service, one bill for like 99.99.

I'm hittin' that stuff up if it's true and not entirely crappy.

well, that will never happen simply because that would be a monopoly. The U.S. Gov't will not allow it.

so, before a company has any customers it's a monopoly? 🙄

it's not like the company can't be subsidized, like they're "trying" to do to microsoft.

no that is not what I am saying. What I am saying is if only one company offers service for one thing for every person, it is a monolopy as the can increase the prices all they want.

Not everyone is going to take the service...and i don't know if you've been reading the thread, but SBC is apparently already doing this.

And no where did I say it was going to be "only one" company. I said A company.

Oh, the price? I think it's a little more than that, but depends on what "package" you get. I just meant they were billing all that stuff on one bill. 🙂

Is SBC in your state/area? They now offer a digital satellite, along with Cingular, SBC local, SBC long distance, and DSL (2 speeds); one bill; discounted packages and for combined billing. 🙂

It's a shocker though when you see all that add up on one bill. 😉 And SBC just changed their billing format and it is REALLY confusing now (worse than it has been for the past 30 years). But I just make one payment for them all, and that's convenient!

Just don't order your Cingular service through them. 🤣 Better to call after you have Cingular (if you don't already) and have SBC sign you up for the combined billing and discount. 😉

The same reason everyone fights about what game system is better (xbox, PS2, Gamecube) The customer wants to feel good about their choice of carriers and doesn't want to be told they could have gotten a better deal/service after they're already locked in.

Still though, a Cingular offer will always remain known as a b.s. offer.

Having multiple carriers and plans is to the customer's benefit. That's what keeps the competition up and the prices down. If there were only one carrier, prices would be outrageous because the demand would be enormous but there would only be one supplier. It's the competitiveness that is fueling the race between carriers to produce better technology, lower prices, and larger networks. The mobile phone industry is a multi-billion dollar collaboration that is steadily growing. If anything, I see more variety and options coming in the future. Americans love variety; customers want to think they are getting the best deal. As many of us out there that love the enhanced phone features, there are at least the same number of people who just w...
