that's incorrect. there are provisions that allow customers who do not wish to give a social to activate. the sales rep would call in to get it done.
If you have a credit history you can't get away from it. If you use a false social it will go to a manual review process during which they will verify personal information to see if the credit file pulled matches your identity.
If your credit sucks, you owe $750 regardless. If you have no history at all it will be $500 or less depending on other factors such as address history, job history, etc.
What are you trying to avoid? Giving your social or letting AT&T see your credit history?
