I'm a AT&T COR employee, and this is my plea to our customers or soon to be customers. When getting a brand new phone please put the wireless phone insurance for $4.99. I mean think about it, would you rather pay the $4.99 for your new phone that you just got and only pay $50 when it breaks, or pay $400 for a phone you got for way less than that? You do the math!!! I've seen it a million times, customers buy phones and we offer the insurance, 3 months later they dropped their phone in the toliet...so sorry you don't have insurance, that'll be $350 for a new phone. It suxs and i hate doing that to customers but i hate to say I told ya so. So to avoid the headaches and the temper tantrum you'll throw in the store just get the insurance.

Customers throw a tantrum even if they have insurance?

"What I have to pay $50? No one ever told me that? I want a free phone!"

"You mean you can't just give me a phone right now I actually have to wait for 24 hours to get it in the mail? But I have cheer practice I can't be without a phone"

"Can I get a different phone than what I had with the insurance...what? why not that is stupid I want a free phone now!"

And then there are dumb people..

"I know I have insurance but I'd rather pay the no committment price today than wait till tomorrow to get a phone even though I've been paying for insurance for 3 years."

Brilliant answer. f you are dumb enough to buy a $20,000 car maybe you should not drive it in the rain either........

If a $500 phone will cause MAJOR financial damage in your life, enough to need to spend another $60 or more a year on "insurance" perhaps you should not be spending that much on a phone.

Anyone who needs insurance on a $500 item is over their heads financially. Insurance should protect vs MAJOR financial ruin. Not minor inconvenience's.

We are going to start offering our own inhouse insurance funded by a third party that will cover any phone from any type of damage or loss at the same cost as lockline and cheaper on lower end phones.

Most of us can't even buy insurance for our PDA's and insurance is still insurance, you are weighing the options. Would you rather pay $120 over the life of your contract for the monthly fee and a $50 deductible or just take your chances. MOst people don't have a "$400" phone that can be covered by insurance so basically it is a scam.

What I mean is 5 a month for insuarnce of the 14 years I have had cell phones would be $840. I have had to replace one phone due to it breaking after the year warrenty and I wanted a new one anyway. So unless you are jsut careless and break one or drop it in water all the time its not worth it!
