Unanswered Call Charges

For the past couple months I am seeing incoming calls which I KNOW went to voicemail (i.e. calls from a landline to get my messages) which are being charged 1 min of time.

Is this a new policy? I do not have an extended ring time - system default.

Any help would be appreciated,
Mark

Hi Mark. You are charged time for voicemail just like talktime. Don't know if that makes any sense, but every call is 1 min of talk time. Hope this helps, Paul

What? If you call your cell phone from a landline and it goes to voicemail, you should NOT be charged ANY airtime.

Because it is an unanswered call. If someone calls your cell phone and you do not answer it, and they leave you a message, are you charged airtime? Of course not.

The ONLY way he should be charged is if he checks his voicemail from his cell phone, if he checks it from a landline, as long as the call is not completed, he should not be charged any airtime.

Well, I spoke to an AT&T Rep who stated that YES I would be charged for it. I asked her to let me know where to find it and she started reading the Outgoing provision of 30 secs. I said I know that part but I want to know the incoming. She said that it is the same and was find it - put me on hold then hung up.

I Have not called back but -

In the Caller ID Section of the plan description -
when incoming calls are routed to voicemail, even if no message
is left.

Is this true? I am getting hosed by calling when people are calling me.

Why if that is true I would dump them. The only time you should be charged is when you answer the call from your handset.

I know sprint charges .20 a min if you foward any calls from your mobile number which I hated and even if it was from one sprintpcs number to another. When me and the wife are together we dont liek to carry two and fowarding comes in handy then but never used it for that reason. Now alltel has it and its free!! 🙂

But back to it no call should be charged if gone unanswered and if they are they are basiclly robing people which I would not put it past ATT.

After speaking with THREE customer service reps - the last being a supervisor. Here is what I found out...

1. Yes, it is in your agreement you are charged for incoming and outgoing calls even to voicemail. The connection dropped

2. Yes, it is in the terms and conditions. When asked where she said it is not specifically stated but it is the policy. Asked to speak to a supervisor.

Supervisor - Yes, you are charged it is in the terms and conditions. "Show me where" - Hmm... OK I will read the Voicemail Agreement. Kept confusing it with me calling my voicemail from my phone - I said I am concerned with LANDLINE CALLS TO MY PHONE WHICH ARE NOT ANSWERED.

Supervisor read the voicemail agreement which stated we are NOT charged fo...

here it is:

Customers will NOT be charged:
Calls from a landline to the voicemail box are not charged airtime.
Calls deposited into a voicemail box from an outside caller are not charged airtime.
Exception: voicemail deposit charges (airtime and long distance) may apply while roaming in a foreign market. If the phone is off and a call is made to the phone, the call will go directly to voicemail and since the network does not attempt to deliver the call, there are no charges such as airtime, roaming, or long distance. If the phone is on, the "first" charge is for delivering the call to the foreign carrier and is the equivalent of receiving a call. However, if the call is not answered, it is then routed by the foreign carrier ba...

I'd call into CS and just have them double check that it's at 15 seconds.

your default time would be set at 20 secs. per AT&T rules. You are only charged airtime for an incoming call if you answer the call if you are being charged airtime for calls you did not answer you need to call CS and tell them the line number and which bill it is on and have them make a case on it. The only other way you are charged airtime for an incomming call you do not answer is it the phone is on and you are international roaming due to the call had to ring your phone and then back to the us towers for the vm
