I live in San Diego California, I went to Mexico today. I was about five miles down, anyway my cell phone banner still said cingular wireless on it. I was scared to use it for fear of international rates. Now if I am further down about 10 miles the banner switches to a Mexico carrier. Is it possible it was still picking up the signal from the U.S.? Just wondering. Thanks for any info.

Entirely possible that it was still on a US tower. Generally, if your phone says Cingular or Cingular extend you are ok if you are on a nation or nation preffered plan

I know several people who live in Tijuana and have Cingular service (prepaid) and could use it without any issues within the 5 mile across the border almost ending in Caliente located in Avenida Revolucion.

If you normally go to party at the Revolucion you should be ok, but remember there is no guarantee of any kind if you get charged for international roaming.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I don't go to Mexico much anymore. Not to party anyway. I am 32 now not 16 to 21 years of age. I was only going to use the phone if I had to, but it is nice to know I can use it there in an emergency. For free or not for free if I need it it is there.
