GoPhone Question
So I think that I already know the answer to this but, My brother has ATT and he has had his phone for 1 year (contract). He dropped it in the lake and now it does not work. They dont have insurance on their plan and they my parents dont want to start their contract over again for a new phone. Is it possible for him to purchase a GoPhone and activate it on their contract account? I have verizon and I know that you cannot do this with their prepaid phones but i thought i would ask and see.
Any suggestions or info will help!
Thanks

nope. they will suspend your account if you try.

It can be done, sometimes they will flag your account and suspend it, but if you fax a proof of purchase or receipt they will usually unsuspend it. I've sold several.

It can be done, depending on circumstances.
Is the SIM card still ok? If it is, you're chances are pretty good, especially if it's an orange card. If it's a blue.. it's 50/50...

I get calls from people that do it all the time. It's not impossible.
...
You can do it. Just pop the SIM card in the go phone and your set. If he needs a new SIM have them activate the new SIM but don't tell them about using the go phone

That is what we have told our customers numerous times to do. I have never heard of them suspending the account. Only i have heard is that if a PRE PAID customer buys a 3g phone it will not work.
...
Thats odd. I have never heard that before. They may have to upgrade to a new SIM but other then that you can use any phone you want with pre-paid.(Att of unlocked phone that is) They just don't want you using a cheap pre-paid phone on a post-paid account.
...
Dear god, it's called prepaid fraud. Go ask your manager or att rep. It's against policy, and lines DO get suspended for it. I see it at least twice a month in the Dallas market.
Do NOT put a postpaid SIM into a prepaid phone.

No you can't- if you try, the account will suspend. Sorry, they are better off just buying a new phone full retail and then adding insurance to it, lesson learned.
