Better article I think on this issue. “Lower cost of canceling
Wireless customers in the U.S. are generally required to sign up for one- or two-year plans, with early-termination fees typically set at $175 to $200. When they want to alter monthly plans, customers are usually required to extend their current contract or enter a new one.
Under AT&T's new approach, the early-termination fee would be progressively reduced over the life of the plan. It would apply "early in 2008" to new and current customers who sign one- or two-year contracts.
Spokesman Mark Siegel said AT&T has not yet determined how much the fee would decline. The company will inform customers shortly before the change takes effect, he said.

Um... at&t has always let you change your plan to another standard wireless plan without renewing the contract. You only had to renew it to get any free promos.

I figured that article would be better because the original article that Phone Scoop provided was not that good so I felt this one is better and would help get rid of the confusion people have. I actually do not care if they can change without extending the contract, but according to the article and other sources/accounts, they just added that clause in the contracts.

Yea no problem. I also posted this article in the news section. Usually I send them some news and press releases but I forgot to as I was busy when the news came out.
I actually do not think prorated ETFs are fair and that the ETFs should increase. (I talked about this extensively in the news section.)

cingular did all this and only went away from the prorated termination fee about 1.5 years ago, and if you come into a store it never changes your contract to change your plan.
