Unlocked no, use it with a Go Phone, yes.

The iPhone is not manufactured to work unlocked.

You need to do some research on how to "unlock" an iPhone and determine for yourself if:

a) you have the technical knowledge to perform the steps required to unlock the iPhone

b) you have the financial backing to buy another should it become relocked. Unlocking voids the warranty.

I dont think you want a $400 paperweight.

$400 dollar paperweight? there's reverseals that can be performed now, if you've got the know how. It's a cat and mouse game.

ANY sim will work in an unlocked iPhone. Just don't perform updates on the phone using iTunes.

Look, you do not know the technical knowledge of the guy asking the question. If you do not know what you are doing you can ruin your iPhone, right or wrong?

I just told him to do his homework and no go into it thinking it is just a simple fix. From the way he asked his question his knowledge of the whole unlocking process seems very limited.

if you look even closer, he was going to buy one unlocked.

My advice was just to not do updates on iTunes. And if you do, don't cry, you can get your iBrick fixed. I think it's $100 bucks somewhere online. You don't have to know everything, but if you don't take time to figure this stuff out, you're just going to pay someone else to do it all for you.

I think at time of release they said if you have a deposit you can pay 1K for the iPhone and get on prepaid. May have gone down now.

Incorrect. I've seen the iPhone in action with a T-Mobile sim. They are able to be unlocked. But that's besides the real point at hand...

The real question is WHY??? Just don't get it... What's next, TracPhone PDA's?

Im buying an iphone already unlocked and what im going to do is get the gophone pick your plan which is 49.99 a month for the minutes i need and 20$ for unlimited text messaging. which is about 70$ a month. I have metro pcs right now which cost me 60$ a month for a piece of **** phone. The only reason im getting the gophone pick your plan is because im not 18 so i cant sign a contract or anything

I wouldn't buy an unlocked one. Just buy a normal one and put it on prepaid. I'm sure you've read about how apple updated their phones and ended up bricking dozens of "unlocked" iPhones? You're setting yourself up for a big financial risk.

Well you prepay, what you put on it is what you get. When you're out of money, you can't use it anymore. Get it?

Answer: No.

Bricking the iPhone can be reversed now, so don't worry TOO much. Just don't update the phone on iTunes if you buy an unlocked phone, and you'll have smooth sailing.
