I took one around for a few days it is much better looking than the w810 and the screen is nicer. One thing I like on the unlocked sony's is the quick link button on the front that allows you to access important things like your inbox, bluetooth, alarms, LED light, and bookmarks, and of course on the branded versions it is a stupid media net button.

The buttons on the w810 are pretty much unbeatable for texting so the w580i is a little disappointing in that regard.

One thing that I think is really setting sony back is the voice clarity in the speaker. In a quiet setting it is perfectly audible but in noisier environments it is not loud enough or clear enough to understand what people are saying. I think if they really improved on this...

I totally agree about the buttons on the w810. Never has a design been so superb. That phone is a texting machine.

I also agree. So far the w810 has been the best phone I've had for texting. No k790a, much less w610i can ever compare. ☹️

Get a case for the w610. It will make a world of difference for texting.

I've looked, but I haven't had any luck. It's not so much the keypad anymore, (I think I'm getting used to it) it is the fact that it doesn't have Spanish or Portugesse T9. That, and the keypad make texting in those languages frustrating.

I have the 810i, and Just got the w580 for the Lady.

You'll like the 580, it's great. There's nothing to worry about, the screen is very fresh too..

Your in good hands, I was worried as well, but I used it for the last few days and enjoyed it.

The only thing I really hate is that you can't zoom in normal mode only. Other than that I like the phone.

To me; it is no replacement for a w810 because it doesn't have a flash. But my best friend has one and he loves it. I like the new walkman UI though. At first I hated it, but now I like it because it's easier to browse thru songs.

i ended up getting the phone yesterday at the store and i love the phone except that where i'm staying coverage is very poor and this thing doesn't hold onto a weak signal very well. out of the nokia 6555, e62 and 6126, treo 750, blackberry 8800 and samsung 727, the samsung works the best. and my wifes pantech c150 does better than all of those! who woulda thunk it...

Maybe it was the way you were holding it. I've read somewhere the phone has the antenna at the bottom.
