"And despite all the prelaunch hype and fear mongering, you don't hear many gripes that the novel, finger-driven user interface doesn't work, or that videos look crummy, or that the battery doesn't last long enough.

If anything, most of the iPhone's features have exceeded technological expectations, because in reality, it's a miniature Macintosh that happens to be a cellphone."

I love your description of the problem, chainsaw. I would like to think the tech writers write that way. But I'm sure there was an editor somewhere who said, as my writing instructor would say, "too wordy, try revising". So, your accurate description of the problem becomes "at&t's sluggish network". Both phrases accurately depict the situation from the user's perspective, but the short version doesnt accurately reflect reality. Sometimes, Mr/Mrs Editor, wordy is necessary.

Seems basically on the money. Not perfect, but still a successful product, despite a lot of shrill end of the of world predictions from doomsayers.
