diu, it boggles my mind that phones within the same REGION are not availible, if they are going to be REGIONAL then why only make certain phones availible in certain zip codes?

Because we go by markets... And though they may be in the same region... they may not necessarily be in the same market...

Here is a thought... maybe they offer different phones to different customers based on intelligence. If you live in an area where there are alot of stupid people, you get the most basic phones, like Nokias. If you live in a highly intelligent area, you get the coolest phones with the latest features, like Motorola or Siemens... all because your smart enough to know most of the features available. Of course they still offer good phones for the smart people living in dumb areas, but they cost more because dumb people don't have good jobs & cant afford the good phones. 🤣

its not about knowing how to use it, its about the severly flawed firmware that motorola always produces....

As a consumer rather than Cingular rep, this does present me with a problem.

Assume I'm an informed consumer and a committed Cingular nation-plan customer who just wants to find the best phone possible. Once I've recognized that differenct ZIP codes present me with differing phones or prices, now I'm extremely annoyed. I (rightly) expect that my Cingular phone will work nationwide in the USA.

I travel with my Cingular phone, and I just may frequent out-of-region stores because it's DURING MY TRAVELS (duh) that Cingular most often comes to my little consumer pea-brain....

But you don't need to get upset by either. Complaining to us won't fix it.

My post was not the least bit meant to be insulting... But allow me to try and explain...

Just because the phone model you want is not directly sold in your market does not mean it won't work... You can purchase a Cingular phone from a different market, still activate it in your market, and still use it nationwide... no problem...

The reason phone prices and availability varies by market is because of supply and demand... If studies show that your market has about 200,000 users that rarely purchase a mide-end to high-end phone... We won't offer them in that market...

If studies show your market has about 6 million users and about 80% of buy mid to high end phones then we will offer it in those markets...

You can always order a p...

IQ's & other dumb answers aside, go to a company Cingular store if you have one in your area. You'll find this extremely handy, especially if you have to make a return.

Authorized resellers can obviously sell you what they got, but one of their agents would need to reply to this post to comment on returns.

The online offers are good, but returning or exchanging things by mail instead of in person is a pain in the a$$.

I post this because 3 of 5 phones I obtained in the last three weeks from two different carriers were defective. Returning in person definitely alleviated dealing with boxing, labeling. mailing, insuring, & waiting for a credit.

No offense Matty. There is however no correlation between IQ & a crappy product, no matter who makes it. Even good names put out lemons. I was just trying to steer the poster toward a Cingular store or authorized reseller. Hands on beats online anyday, plus this is one product I'm happy to say I'm glad I didn't purchase over the net.

I totally agree that hand-on is better. But what i said about phone being subject to availability due to intelligence is a JOKE...Dont try to read into it so much.

We may be on to something here. & FYI... Yeah Motorolas are hard to use because of their firmware that is corrupt... so if you figure it out or a way to deal with it & not get all frustrated, you are pretty smart to me.

firmware has nothing to do with how hard motorola's are to use...

the claim the motorola's are hard to use is because the menu layouts and the graphical user interface are not user-friendly... This is a software issue... at that not so much an issue but inconsiderate programming...

The claim that motorola's are crap... due to their poor performance in real-life field tests and the fact they crap out every three months is because of the poor hardware BIOS programming... which is the firmware... this is just plain bad programming...
