New site looks great...too bad we couldn't get the old newsgroup content in here thought. So, I'll just repost:
Currently I'm a Sprint customer and I'm thinking about switching. I'd like to pick up an SL56 on Cingular's GSM service but I'm a bit wary about the coverage in the Cambridge/Boston area. I've heard there are holes in the Kendall Sq. area. Does anyone have this service in my area? I'd love to hear what you think. Thanks.

😎 I've been working for Cingular for three years now, and have been in the business for about six. The only bit of advice I can give you is this: the new Cingular GSM network is the most rapidly expanding network ever to hit the United States. Those small problem areas are sure to be a thing of the past within a few months here. Not only that, but you also need to keep in mind that we're talking about cell phone service here, which is far from perfect no matter what carrier you're discussing. Every carrier has good spots and bad which are determined by a multitude of variables including: weather, environment, surrounding building structures, interfering towers (police stations, radio stations, etc), battery strength, phone model, and so on....

I agree. I manage a Cingular store in near Allentown, PA and the coverage is expanding faster than anything I have ever seen in my 7 1/2 years of experience. To add to the expansion , we have AT&T roaming agreements which make the roll-out even better. We have een achieved smooth hand-offs with those towers. I would say that the coverage in the Central PA market is almost macthed with TDMA in only a 5 month span. amazing....

Neat thing about the HARLY market, the approved tower build out plans have an additional 65 towers. All new construction in markets 38, 39 and 40 will be GSM only.
