MEdia Works Gone

galavanter

Dec 15, 2004, 11:03 PM
A search on Cingular's site returns 2 results for media works. Clicking on either results in "page not found".
I'm a total newbie but I want to get a Nokia 6620 and tether it to my Mac via bt. I have been trying to do the research myself but it seems Tmo is shutting down ports on tzones and now media works is no more. I am trying to choose between these two providers. Any feedback would be appreciated.

ok if you start shopping on the cingular site media works comes up after you select a phone and a plan. But I also found this by searching further here. The poster later says he is a Cingular employee... Is there something to this or have I just embarrassed myself with my first post?

He is confusing a feature and a service... The data connect is to enable a PDA or lapop to connect to the internet through your mobile phone... basically paying for isp... MEdia Basic and Media Works is going online ON your mobile phone... Two different things... two different ways to bill...

Thanks for the reply. So I can go ahead and sign up with Cingular, get my 6620, and then I can tether it to my Mac via bt and have unlimited usage (html) for $19.99?

actually the original poster is correct. cingular has many different data plans. media works, and basic is for a standard cell phone to surf xhtml. there is a pda connect that is for smart phones 5mb is 29.99 and unlim is 39.99. neither of those will work for what you want. you need data connect wich starts at 19.99 for minimal usage, and goes to 79.99 for unlim. use some common sense. comcast charges $45 for wireless internet where you are confined to your house do you really think that you will find a cheaper internet package that lets you go anywhere and surf the web. customers like you make me sick! always want top of the line service for nothing. When you can afford it sign up for the correct plan, but with dumb posts like that ...

Then how can you explain that the $19.99 unlimited plan. Works when I use a cable from my phone to my laptop and it allows me to search on the web on my laptop?

it has worked in the past, however going forward people who are doing so will have their gprs/edge service stopped. from what I understand, people who already have the service will be grandfatherd in, but new customers will not be allowed

I have always been puzzled as to why someone thinks they can act the fool on the internet, and feel that due to the anonymous nature of the medium they still have their dignity intact.

I have always been puzzled as to why people post crap like that in an attempt to sound intelligent when the truth is, I have farted more dignified statements than that.

No galavanter... To connect a device to the net using your mobile phone requires a data connect package... Unlimited is $79.99...

Secondly, Cingular has the BT DUN profile disabled so you can't connect via bluetooth, only through a data cable...

To browse the net directly from your phone unlimited would be MEdia Works for $19.99...

im trying to figure out how medai works would ever work to get a laptop online the apn0004 feature is not added with media works, only with data connect socs. unless they had some kind of overlapping feature where it caused an error, and as soon as the scripts are run for that error... WHAM BIG BILL! or it just wont work anymore.

You used to be able to do it, I used to connect my lap top through my v60 with a wix package, however that was about 1 1/2 years ago before the media packages. it is my understanding that the new media and wix packages it is still possible, but cingular has a way of detecting it, and will shut it off. I read this in an email from the field ops team. up untill about a week ago media works was the way to hook up a pda, even though pda connect was available. but for the launch of the mpx220 and sx66 they have changed this. I think that its in anticipation of people using the new smartphones much more than the treo

I didn't recieve that memo... Data has always been for Data and WIX has always been WIX... PDA internet connectivity is not that different from a laptop... They both have to use the tcp/ip protocol... So how would the PDA be any different?

If you have doubts check w/ Tier 3...

I dont know how its different, but I sold a 39.99 unlimited pda connect package yesterday with an mpx220. also it wasnt a national memo, it was a email from the local ops team that was sent out in the north west orange stores. maybe blue too but I am not sure

Okay I think we've confused each other... So let's do this

MEdia Works (phone only) - $19.99
PDA Unlimited - $39.99
Data Connect Unlimited - $79.99

Getting on the same page... priceless

yes, however I just looked all over the cingular homepage, and no pda connect packages. I even went through the steps of ordering a mpx220 and it prompted me to order media works. no wonder all of our customers are confused. our website is misleading

customer:can you match the online prices in the store?" I hate that question.

what I wish I could say:"only if you want me to hold it for a week before you get to use it" "and you activate it your self"

customer: "why not its the same company isnt it?"

me: "yes but they have to pay me, and believe me my time is worth more than someone who picks orders in a wharehouse!"

No offense to any one who picks orders
