I have 2 lines of service & one of my lines reflects it is eligible for upgrade AFTER my contract end date, which is in February. This didnt seem right to me, based on my previous upgrade history with AT&T/Cingular/AT&T. I called in and a rep got authorization to do an upgrade for me because of the upgrade date not listing correctly. I told her I wanted a deal for a W580i w/ a 1gb card that is online. She said it wasnt guaranteed I would get that deal, but her manager would try to overide it. I was on hold for an hour & the manager was having issues, so I was told I would get a call back. Didnt happen. So I call today & I am told that i am SOL by a manager and that I wouldnt be allowed to upgrade until the end of March, after my contract is ...

The system usually gives reasons as to why your not eligible to upgrade during the usual upgrade timeframe. It may say due to non-pay disconnects, or even excessive off-network use. Other than that, you should be eligible to upgrade months BEFORE the end of your contract. The point is to get the customer to stay in contract wtihout ever going out of contract. Next time speak with retention if you dont get the answer your looking for, or even an answer as you didnt recieve a clear one. Goodluck.

When is the last time you upgraded? Other than the excessive suspensions or off network usage if you did a transfer of service or had any type of an 11 month extension your contract data would show the 11 month but your upgrade date would be true to your last upgrade.
Example if you upgraded 7/1/06 and did a transfer of service 10/1/06 then your contract length would show 10/1/06 to 9/1/07 which would be out of contract. However, your upgrade date would still be 3/1/08 true to your last upgrade (20 months later).

This phone has NEVER been upgraded. It was activated 2/24/06. This is the exact date of my contract end date. I have had my main line since like 2001 or 02. I have never had any issues with upgrading. Something doesnt seem right....
...
Is it a FT line? If so the LTV may not allow you to upgrade yet. The upgrade program is no longer as cut a dried for pre contract end upgrades.
...
Yep, it is a FT line. I upgraded 2 of my other lines back in 12/06 under my FT. It was done before the contract ended for these lines. Why would it work then, but not now?
...
Considering that was done only 10 months into your agreement I could not say. Everything we have as far as policy then would dictate you were NOT eligible then to upgrade. Good for you that it was allowed but I see many customers who have a FT line not showing as eligible until the contract expiration.

I think you are missing what I am saying. Lemme give an example...
555-1212 Main line activated in 05/2002
555-1213 Addl line activated in 08/2003
555-1214 Addl line activated in 02/2006
Line 1212 & 1213 upgraded in 12/2006. Line 1214 has NEVER been upgraded since it was activated. I want to upgrade line 1214. It should be eligible NOW. Not AFTER my contract end date....
...
And you missed what I am saying.
The new LTV (Life time value) ratings look at many different aspects to determine eligibility. That line only generates $9.99 per month plus maybe some features. Not very much. So that line may not be eligible until the contract actually ends and they may or may not waive the fee.
As I said, the new upgrade system is not as cut and dried. For customers with a better LTV they get a better deal (earlier upgrade date and usually no upgrade fee). For customers simply wanting to upgrade their 3rd line on a FT they may have to wait. After all, they are not going to subsidize something that only generates $240 worth of revenue over 2 years any sooner than needed.
...
The LTV is great for my main line. I upgrade all the time with it. Wish they would fix it for addl lines... Maybe I will just cancel it when the contract is over. Its for business use only, but I can just bump up my regular line...
...
No fix needed. The LTV was the fix.
...
If you upgrade 'all the time' then your LTV will not be that great. That means we've subsidized x amount of dollars from your devices and you may or may not have paid them back yet. If it's a real problem about waiting a month, port to Verizon at contract date and two days later port back in as a new line.
...
I cancelled. The reps pissed me off with the treatment I received. I wasnt expecting too much when I called in. Just told them my situation and a rep said to me "You are lucky we even let you upgrade after the contract. In my opinion, lines that only make us $10 a month shouldnt be allowed to upgrade at all". Transferred to retention. FIRST thing he offered was to cancel the line without an ETF. Fine by me!

My wife and I had the same problem with her line and found out that a rep at the store that we did a relocation at went back in to our account after we left and did an upgrade(due to the fact he would not get anything for the relocation he decided to upgrade her line to get something for his time). We contacted ATT and they were very good about letting her upgrade and let me know that this wouldn't happen again. If you work in a store I would check the account notes if you've ever had upgrades at COR. I'm not dogging COR, but since June we have had more than 10 people come in with the same problem. I have also heard that if you have no features on your add-a-line that they may push your ability to upgrade back.
...
The same thing must have happened to me. I did a relocation for 2 lines on a FT plan. Now one phone shows as eligible for upgrade and the other one doesn't. One line was 'relocated' and the other was apparently 'upgraded'. But I'm still using the original equipment.
COR will let me do an exception upgrade, but I can only purchase my equipment from a COR store, not an authorized dealer or on-line. Kinda sucks when the nearest COR stores are 15-20 miles away and an agent store is only 3 blocks away.
