when cingular gets a phone and they customize it for cingular why do they lock out 80% of the ringtones put in by the manufacturer.
...
?? They shouldn't. What type of phone is it? Does it have a list of tones, and then also a "gallery", which would be in a seperate file/folder? Most nokia phones have that. Also, some manufacturers include certain ringtones with some models of phone that are not included with others, and some may be different, too.

such as the samsung x426 with attws has over 35 ringtones. the cingular version has hardly any. the sony ericsson t226 with attws and the cingular version, the attws one has way more. the v400 with cingular very few, the tmobile version, waaaaay more ringtones and differnt base tracks available other than the "spooky" one with cingular. Those are just some of the ones i know about so far.

Cingular has to pay the manufacturer for the software loaded into the phones and the priority is great phones and great reception, they are not locked just not loaded into the phones via the anufacturer, attws paid that and lost their shirt, which allowed cingular to buy attws, cuz they are avoiding attws problems
...
Yeah, you have a good point there. Cingular took on a HUGE tasking not only technically, but financially when they took over AWS. Not only are they taking on network, but also AWS's existing problems, and debt-ouch! They will probably be cutting expenses in a few categories that are less crutial until everything settles down.
...
They are not screwing around as is ALL Blue Reps are totally out of phones, not a phone to spare to save a life.Allphone we got now are Cingular only with migration-Of course 🙄 🙄 🤣
...
from what i understand, when a ringtone is put in by the manufacturer you cannot delete it. So, if cingular puts in less ringtones you have the ability to personalize more ringtones because phones have so much memory for this stuff. and, cingular allows you to download from external sites from your phone (not just cingulars site) which can save you money...most carriers don't allow that.
don't you want to be able to pick and choose the ringtones you want to hear??
i know i do.

Actually this topic is one pain that i've been trying to find a work around for... On my Moto v400 anything I d/l from Cingular's site was locked (makes sense, doesn't bother me)... Everything I downloaded elsewhere was unlocked (Once again, makes sense, definitely doesn't bother me)...
My v551, I love the phone, one of Moto's best (ask me again in three months)... But the biggest difference I noticed is now everything I d/l via GPRS/EDGE is locked regardless if it's from Cingular or a third party site... (this I utterly hate and as I stated before am still looking for a workaround.)... Everything d/l via MMS is unlocked... Why? I don't know... No doubt there's $$ involved... It is frusterating though... Just venting...

Sounds like a manufacturer software issue, call Moto.
...
The number for Moto is (800) 331-6456
The automated system is cool but does not have alot of options for odd ball issues like that. Call during business hours.
