Cingular charging ATT wireless customers to migrate

Why should Cingular charge existing ATT customers to migrate. I think this is wrong. Existing ATT customers should not be penalized because Cingular bought ATT wireless. I think the FCC should know about this unfair practice. I was charged 18 dollars to migrate because i needed a new phone because my current brand new phone with ATT was not compatible. I think this sucks.

The fee goes to cover the costs associated with being able to buy the phone from Cingular instead of Motorola or Nokia, etc.

You probably saved more than $18 with that phone and you also had the choice to migrate. The migration is optional it is not required at this time.

If you the phone was shipped to you it also covers the cost of shipping.

The "migration" fee is also an upgrade fee.. this would have been charged to any exsisting cingular custoemr as well if they wanted to upgrade to a new phone

The 18.00 was for equipment upgrade fee, which is neither illegal or unfair practice, those fees help maintain those prices at low costs, they could elimnate fees, but they would also have to elimnate things like discount prices for phones, and rebates that are offered for phones as those are paid for by the carrier, and FYI, being with ATTWS, you would know there was the upgrade fee of $15.00 if you wanted an ATTWS phone, Cingular's upgrade was already 18.00 you are just paying that same fee as existing cingular customers. 😈 😈

They could also siply charge a $36.00 start of service on a new cingular plan, would you prefer that? 😈 😈

Not migration fee. UPGRADE fee. And your are not required to get a new phone. You are only required to get a new phone if you want to change to one of the cingular plans. AWS had a simular fee when upgrading your phone. Cingular also charges this fee any all customers not just AWS customers. There is nothing unfair about this fee. In no way shape or form are you forced to pay this $18 upgrade fee because you are not forced to upgrade. If you would like (and it is an options) to upgrade your phone to a cingular phone and plan then yes you have to pay it.

as everyone else has stated....the 18.00 is the best deal you would have gotten on a new phone shipped to you. new customers pay 36.00 plus tax, and sometimes first month bill, AND a deposit. exiosting aws pays 15.00 upgrade, plus 9.95 shipping and handling. that 18 bucks covers your activation, the shipping of your phone, as well as the expenses to transfer all your numbers and such to cingular. so live with it....or you can call fcc and have them laugh at you. please...inform us. i think someone already said that and listed the number.

instead of complaining, think about it like this

you are a NEW customer to cingular, ALL new customers PAY AN ACTIVATION FEE, $18 is a discounted activation fee

that is all
