I currently have a prepaid Alltel phone but have been thinking about switching to AT&T since I have my home phone and internet through them. The service has just become available in my area. If there is anyone out there that lives in Michigan I would love their input as to how the service and signal strength is compared to Alltel. I live in the between Muskegon & Traverse City.

I live in the thumb of Michigan. In my experiences, Alltel and AT&T are both good networks. It seems that both have extensive coverage in your area as well, especially now that AT&T has bought out Dobson. I can almost guarantee that they will be adding more towers when they finally integrate Dobson's network into theirs and upgrade the towers. As for Alltel, they tend to have EXCELLENT reception and coverage around here (Saginaw/Bay City/Midland area). People love their Alltel service around here and I can tell you since I have Verizon that whenever I don't have service, I am ALWAYS extended onto Alltel (or Thumb Cellular, but that's just because I live in hickville, LOL)

It's all up to you though. Test both out. Obviously you are already...

alltel isn't considered a national carrier, just a regional carrier.

Also, don't count on them being around for long. They were sold this year to private equity firms who are waiting for their value to increase before they sell to a major national carrier....verizon probably or sprint.

don't count on that. The more I read on them the more I think they won't sell. The bigger they get the more they will not be seen as a good buy for the national carriers. That is one reason they didn't get bought form the get go from one of them. ANd the investors that bought them seem to be into communications. They are a profitable company with the highest stock next to US Cell. And they are also going to participate in the AWS auction. anther indication they are not going to sell as they want to move into areas they are not. The only areas verizon or sprint would want is the rural areas they are already in not were they want to go.

Anyway I have alltel and the my circle is the best thing I have had. me and my wife use around 500 any...

I have had alltel for about 2 years now. They are actually buying out sprint and nextel. I love there service. Their national plans are a no brainer. I also work for AT&T and the only thing they are good for is expensive paper weights. Although the new network is geting better for AT&T but the coverage is still not as good as alltel. AT&T are the leader in the buisness market but I do not think they will be the leader for long.

if your going to test at&t's network do the 30 day trial with them so you get the real experience of the network...make sure you get a good reception phone too...dont go cheap cause if you dont like it in 30 days you can return the phone and get your money back

Alltel purchasing Sprint/Nextel?! Well one should note that its neither fact nor truth. Just a rumor. Might wanna throw that in your next post when you decide you want to educate people on only YOUR THOUGHTS instead of factual evidence.
