Depends on where you are located. If you are in an HSDPA Area it may be close to RR speed. Otherwise, it will be noticably slower if you are in an EDGE network area. If you are remaining static and do not need the mobility of a wireless card, stay with your cable modem.

We're in edge and we're getting between 3.7-5.6 MBs/sec. Not bad, but will be better when 3G hits.

somehow I doubt your getting 3.7mbps with edge... Considering our 3g is advertised as 1.5bmps

EDGE has beat our broadband from comcast in store since they upgraded our area to the EDGE plus(2.7G) network thanks to that POS iPhone. i just check the network connection to let me know how the network is running. as far as our training is concerned, 3G should be 7mps to 15mps with the HSDPA, which is what our comcast should be at. we're in an EDGE area and we've had only 2 returns in the last 6 months due to speed. most of our customers report that they can see a difference in speed compared to Verizons DSL. maybe we're getting lucky.

Copied from Wikipedia:

"EDGE can carry data speeds up to 236.8 kbit/s for 4 timeslots (theoretical maximum is 473.6 kbit/s for 8 timeslots) in packet mode and will therefore meet the International Telecommunications Union's requirement for a 3G network, and has been accepted by the ITU as part of the IMT-2000 family of 3G standards. It also enhances the circuit data mode called HSCSD, increasing the data rate of this service."

But you're saying you get over 3 mb/sec.... for some reason I don't think that is possible....

Try it on this website off of edge. I'd be interested to see what your upload and download speeds really are, not what your wireles connection tab on your computer says what you're runnind at.

our computer tech in store has already used that site and has seen anywhere between 3.6-and 4.1. granted, the upload times are much lower but the page refresh rate is faster then our comcast. thats just here in our market. as I said on a previous post, it was much slower last year but it has gotten much faster since the iPhone launch when they optimized the EDGE.

from what i was told in a data class, the new 3G with HSUPA should almost hit 21-30mbs. this also is up for debate if the device is older. we have had more satisfied aircard customers than i ever thought we'd have. i will say that our network here in our market is almost as good as San Diego (without the 3G) as far as dropped calls.

What training are you recieving? 21-30 mbs? Level 7 HSUPA has a max uplink rate around 12Mbits/sec. And there is no way possible you are getting over 3Mbits/second on EDGE - its not possible. Are you sure they haven't soft launched 3G in your area and just not announced it? In most markets they will actually have working 3G for several months before actually announcing it as they run tests on it.

Looks to me like Sprint has evdo in your area....

http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/ »

at&t doesn't show any 3g coverage in the area....

verizon has evdo coverage, but be forewarned, they do have a cap on data if you plan on heavy usage.

Good luck! 😉
